I love the comment from the poster re his new tractor alarm and remote starting unit. That's sweet!

I have a plan to hopefully fix this for good. My land lies along 3/10's of a mile of state hwy. The old barn is a one end and where I camp with power and water is at the other. Plus it's curvy and all trees so there is no sight line. The first thing I am doing is fencing and putting in gates on both ends of the property. Those are the only vehicle accessible areas that I have to worry about.

Then I have decided to have a 30 x 50 pole barn built where I have power/water. That will give me storage for the tractor and toys and a place to sleep as I am going to finish out a 30 X 12 section into my "Lodge". The best part, I too will be able to hook up some surprises for the bad guys.

My land is in a very poor rural area and I know folks there pick up anything left out for scrap. Plus we get the odd methhead passing thru on occasion.

Did I mention that I hate thieves!

One more quick theft story I just heard today --

A friend of a friend here in town was in the hospital. While he was in a group of thieves took a tractor and broke down his garage door and stole his corvette. They parted it out and eventually caught one of the thieves. What makes my stomach turn is that this was a '67 corvette big block special ordered by the owner and came off the production line with his specs (guess they did this at one time). The regular production vettes of this style go for $150,000 at auction. This one was worth more, but thieves were so stupid they didn't know what they had so they tore it up into pieces and sold it off.

It would have been a tough sell if left intact, not too many of those around with matching numbers. Hopefully the death penalty applies in this instance.;)

I don't know if this is my first post or not

I've been on this site lurking for a long time. Last year, I bought a piece of crap Long Tractor. The labor to get it started, alone, cost me more than a monthly payment on a new unit.
This week, I traded that hunk of junk on a JD 5603, with a 542 FEL, and 8 foot heavy disc unit.

I was asked by the dealership if I wanted a Radio, and I demured, as my son in law teaches people how to pimp their ride.

Well, today, it was Pimp My Trac! We put a Pioneer system in the cab, and it glows JD Green!

But the Coup De Gras, was we put in a CompuStar alarm system in the tractor. If someone even opens the door, the alarm will have them running for the fenceline. That thing has about 5 or 6 back up Gotcha's to it. Have a JD Key? No good if the alarm's set. Put up with the alarm, and press the clutch? No go. Kick the tires? Yikes!

Really like the remote start, so when I'm opening the gate to the property, I can have the air conditioning cooling the cab. And the remote tells me what the temp is in the cab!

I HATE thieves, and I don't put it past anyone to try and take avantage of me.

And oh, yeah, LOVE the 5603!

Thank you for telling us about your tractor with the remote start that tells you the temp in the cab. I will not have to listen to my wife talk about me and gadgets ever again.

Well it is obvious we have some non ebay fans on here. I personally have had some very good luck on ebay. I bought a car on there ( I had a friend that lived in the state near the car go check it out) I have bought lots of tools etc on there. My wife has bought jewelry on there. I have had a couple of things not be what they were listed as but they were such small items i just did not worry about it and went on. The last thing which I just purchased was a Graco SG3 spray gun. It was used and I paid 57.00 for it. The seller had a buisness and warranteed it to be good for a week after I got it. (gives you a chance to try it out and make sure it works.) It worked fine and I saved quite a bit of money.

Do they have thieves selling on ebay. I am sure they do. The have stolen items in pawn shops, they have stolen items at flea markets, stolen items at garagage sales. I would expect them on ebay and probably craig list. If something is selling too cheaply on ebay or anywhere I dont buy it. I wont knowingly buy stolen items or items I suspect was stolen.

My Pleasure, Gemini :D

I gotta say, if anyone saw it in application, they'd respond in Generic He-Man Fashion..."I Gotta Have It!"

The joys of owning remote land continue!

Today I got a call from my cousin who lives about 3 minutes from my hobby farm. I call it that but really it's just 48 acres of trees with 2 acres of pasture, a well, power and an old shed that needs to die.

Anyway, he calls and asked me if I was letting someone from Texas camp on the property. I thought he was kidding! Turns out the neighbors saw a 20 something year old guy and gal hide their car behind the shed, put a tarp over it and set up camp. When he questioned them they said they had permission to be there. Well the neighbor finally got a hold of my cousin who got ahold of me and learned differently.

So this afternoon they go back with the sherriff to run them off but couldn't find them. The car and camp is there but evidently they are hiding in the woods somewhere nearby. Everyone was crusing my 4 wheeler trails looking for them, the sherriff was sounding his siren, etc. but no luck. It was a real man hunt for a while but they never came in. The sherriff ran a check on the car and suspects it's a guy from the army gone AWOL. He thought that if everyone would leave it would quite down and the guy would try to sneak in, break camp and get the heck out of Dodge. That is unless I wanted to press trepassing charges and have the car towed. Nothing had been hurt so I decided to give the guy a chance to hit the road tonight.

At least that is what I hope happens. I figured the guy has enough trouble already and knows that the place is being watched. I hope that is the right decision. The Sherriff is checking on the place in the AM so we will see. If he is dumb enough to still be there in the AM all bets are off.

Did I mention that I have been trying to find time to build some fence? Talk about motivation to get that job going...jeez some people have gall! I can't imagine why they thought they would get away with just moving in.

I guess I need to amend the OP to say "I hate thieves and squatters!"
