I was leery of the same thing. Talked to the contractor, asked a lot of questions, and went and looked at four other driveways that he had done. I understand that the chip and seal is as strong as your base. I was worried about occasional truck traffic, but have not seen anything that would cause me concern as of yet. Time will tell I guess.

Your drive looks great. I'll bet you're very happy.

I wish you the best of luck with yours. I'm really happy to finally have the driveway in. We have been here for almost 6 years now. The 2nd year we paved the area directly in front of the garage and a 200' section of the driveway. Doing that really reduced the dirt that made it into the house from car tires in the garage.
It always seamed we had other things to spend the money on besides the rest of the driveway. .. I finally cracked and could not take it anymore. Now I have to fill in the sides with loam and seed so the edges of the pavement will have some side support.

My neighbor bought a tar pot at an auction and is going to tar and feather his own drive way. He already has a small dump truck. He did not spend near that much on the whole setup. Ed

He should take it to Richmond or Washington and do some tar and feathering there. It's gonna take a whole lot of tar though.
