I've actually been reading up on the G80 quite a bit, as I would like to stop running my Colorado full time and make it more of an offroad truck for when I need it. Tonight instead of shifting into 4WD on the icy hill before my house I shut off the TC, to see if it would make the hill with just the rear differential locked. I made it about 2/3 of the way up the hill before the truck stopped. Shifting into 4WD I was able to go from a dead stop and continue up the hill. Had I been able to manually lock the rears it may have been different, as I would have been going faster than 20MPH while going up the hill.

10 years ago, Ford had the best hub set up automatic with manual over ride, just in case. My last Ford was an 08, I dont know what they have now.
It's the same. Our 2019 has Auto and Locked position on the hubs.

I believe the biggest reason they kick out at 20mph is do that if one tire breaks loose at higher speeds, the other won't take over and send you around in a circle. Kind if like that SUV you posted a couple of days ago.
Using a locker at significant speed would scare me. Getting moving is when a locker makes sense to me.

On the tires and 4 WD subject, last fall I loaded my wood trailer near a tree I was cutting up when the weather was good. Flat ground, but significant clay in it. When we needed to wean calves into that field, I needed to move the trailer out of there. With my luck, I needed to do it right after a rain. F250 with fairly aggressive tread, could not do it, all 4 wheels spinning, maybe moved the trailer 6". The only other thing I had at the time on that property was an old 2WD Massey 245 with good condition R1s. It moved the trailer without problem. Tire tread made that difference.

Not that I would buy a new 2 WD truck a 2 WD tractor.

2019 Ranger has a locker, kicks out at 20mph. Wish there was a way to increase to maybe 40mph...

What do you have, something which we can't get here?
Mitsubishi Triton GSR, 2WD, AWD, 4WD H&L, a large dial in front of the handbrake to select what you want, not all have the AWD just the GSR and the one below it.
I believe that it is not sold in the USA any longer but they are quite popular here, most utes (pickups) are 2 to 3.5 litre, of course we get the F's, RAM, GMC etc but they are not as popular.

I'd be happy with 30, as that's when my TC turns itself back on. Then again it would be helpful to increase THAT to 40... any faster thn that and it never activates anyways.

Us Yanks always think bigger is better. Often a disservice. In my Worldly travels (not down under yet) I always notice the use of midsize and mini size trucks is more popular. I know of 3, off the top of my head, 1 Ton, dually, crew cab, long bed, 4wd trucks around me that never haul anything or pull a trailer....
