I'm glad you're here to talk about it. Wish you full and immediate recovery. I know that'll be a lesson learned for me. Thanks:)

DDT:

I am glad that you are still around to share your experience. Now I can understand why my wife gets upset when I am chainsawing and she is not around. Hang in there during the rehab (Been there done that- different parts). Jay

DDT,

Thanks for relating this painful story. Glad to hear you are on the mend.

I don't have nearly the experience you do in cutting trees and I cannot figure out what you did wrong from the description. As this is the safety forum maybe we can discuss what would have been a safer approach to felling that tree.

Glad to hear you're going to be OK. I'll be thinking about this when I'm felling my trees. Thanks for the reminder.

Sounds like you got a different kind of Christmas presant. Yours was that you are alive and walking. Glad to hear you made it out with only some pins and rods. Better than a wheel chair for life. Get well soon.

YEP,,,next to driving to work in the morning,[unless you are in bagdad],,chain sawing is about the most dangours thing a fellow does,,,and if you fall bigger trees it might be even more dangours than driving to work,,,,,thingy

DDT,

Thank you for sharing.

I will concede that no matter how many trees I have dropped in the past, I am always a bit nervous as I am making the felling cut on the next one. Especially on the BIG ones in tight quarters. Why? Because I have seen trees do the unexpected time and time again. Fortunately, I have not been hurt yet. I do know two men that were not so lucky. The first was killed by a falling dead limb that seperated from the tree while falling. The second killed one of his children when the tree fell the "wrong way" (I will not get into why anybody would cut down a tree with two children under 15 years old with him).

SO, for those readers who have little or no experience with a saw. Take notice. This guy had done it for years and still got hurt. What are a novice's chances of doing it safely. Do not take felling trees lightly. I agree with "thingy", it is one of the most dangerous activities we undertake.

Thank you for posting and good luck in the healing process.

Get Well soon.
I always worry about doing this type of work without someone else close by. Just in case something goes wrong. After reading your post I will be even more concerned.
