A retaining nut. I guess a jamb nut might be more applicable in this setup.

I always thought a palnut was one of those little tophats...

two things..

1) will someone PM me about what I missed? I need a good laugh today.
2) I would use the Blue Loctite. NOt KNowing if you want this to be permanent or not.... Red is considered the permanent loctite. VERY hard to get apart. We use Blue Loctite in our Backhoe mount kits.

Yes.. I think those qualify, as well as many other kinds of 'push' nuts. I've seen them used as retainers and whatnot.. but after thinking about his application.. a jambnut would be superior.. etc.

Personally, I would just use two of the internally threaded friction based fastening devices on each side, tightening the outermost against the innermost to prevent either from turning. You could also put a simple split or star type lock washer between the members of each pair. The internally threaded friction based fastening devices are tightened with a device known as a wrench.

Why buy a locknut to add to the regular nut.. when a jambnut will be cheaper and accomplish the same thing? ( 2 nuts tightened slightly against each other... ) Heck.. add a drop of the green loctite afterwards... kill the vibration problems..
