Wow no kidding. I-75 is getting to a be a nightmare and I totally agree with Richard. Speed kills and idiocy compunds it. I know a lot of you guys may have never been to Michigan. Here every Friday their is a mass exodus from southern Mi to Northern Mi. It is very popular here to own a cottage, condo, boat or property up north. You guys would be amazed at the junk people haul up north. Throw in a few zillion motorhomes, fithwheelers, trailers and even a few guys that haul their tractors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and the road gets insane in a hurry. Here the speed limit is 70 which makes the average 80. Every weekend on my way up and back I get passed on the right by idiots doing 90 and well over 90. Last weekend I had a car blow by at well over 100. We passed them pulled over a few counties north. This year alone I have seen two horrific accidents on I-75. In July a guy passed me with a mini van doing a good 85 and towing a pop up camper. As he blew by bits of crud punded my windhield. For a brief second I though what the ..... and Then I realized his tire was coming apart on his trailer ( Big Suprise ). I just sloooowed way down and let other people pass. There was no way I could warn him he blew by so fast. A mile up the road the trees had a nice resting spot for his speeding mini van. At least he was driving alone. This past winter near Gaylord on I-75 the road was just glare Ice and the road was covered with fog. Average traffic was 35 mph. There was casino tour bus about a mile ahead. Here comes super joe who thinks 4x4 means you can still pull a haulmark trailer 70 mph on glare Ice as long as your in 4 wheel drive. Wife and kids in the truck. Blows by us in a lane that is barely driveable. As he tries to merge back into the only clear lane his trailer spins the truck around driving them straight into the ditch with several feet of snow. You might think at first it would be a soft landing but it stopped that truck dead and the trailer went head over heels pulling the truck with it. Imagine getting slammed on your roof going 70. Speed alone might not kill but a deer or a blow out at 80 plus is very likely going to be fatal where at 70 you might just have a chance. The 300 mile stretch I drive from Detroit to Mackinaw every weekend is littered with road side crosses. I don't mind so much if some idiot wants to kill himself but when I have to watch them take the wife and kids for a ride too it really ruins my day.

Dave; Thanks for the backup, It's obvious your your also Michigan. But are you sure that was a Haulmark? I had hoped idiots wouldn't know enough to buy a real trailer /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry but over here their the worse kind......You know, Young, dumb and lots of $$$ ! I caught that little Ann Arbor dunking ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The only thing I go over there for is Zingermans Deli. It's worth a little offensive driving to get there. Now if you REALLY want offensive driving at moderate speeds try downtown Birmingham or better yet head to Toronto and take a leisurly stroll down bloor. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Dave, Oh Yeah!! Been there. I think only someone from our area would catch that about the Peoples Republic /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I get off at the 202, get on 33, hit 55, to 65, and north thru Glennie. The driving is great when you get off 75. Get this!! The schoolbus drivers even wait for you to go around before they reenter the road. Here in Monroe they intentionally make sure they've got at least a 1/4 mile following. They must be from Ann Arbor too /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And yes I'll say it, 2 words, Buckeye drivers. Ya gotta love em. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I drive an expedite truck and i can tell you that mich. 23 around Ann Arbor is some of the worst and rudist drivers there are. They just come right on over off the ramp whether you are there or not, and they won't let you over with your blinker on. I've thought about writing a book on How to merge on a ramp to the freeway. People will run right along beside you when they are coming down the ramp and will not speed up to get into the flow of traffic,so you slow down to let them in because your pinned in, then as soon as they get on the freeway they accelerate. Or how many times i have put my blinker on to shift lanes when all of a sudden the guy behind you decides he's gonna get around you before you can move over.

All those drivers that slow down or stop on the entrance ramps must be from the Buckeye state. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

In Michigan we don't have Yeild signs on the entrance ramps. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Sorry...but those plates say mich. on them...Believe me , i have checked them. Had a bad accident around Dayton a little while back in a construction zone that had a great big yield sign flashing and a Mich. driver chose to ignore it and came right on out in the path of a semi who swerved to miss him and took out a couple of cars in the next lane killing one person. Not all mich. drivers are bad...just the ones i seem to come across.

Durbob; I was dragging my flat bed empty thru the Republic about a month ago. Just like in Denver they are. Tried to get in the right lane at the 14/23 split. Turned the signal on and was immediatly cut off right on the right corner of the trailer. Ofcourse the jackass behind me was right there too. I think they both wanted me to drop the ramps so they could drive right on. Sometimes I think turn signals are just an invitation.

Speaking of turn signals. One day I'm just gonna flip out and rent the biggest baddest Semi I can find. Think I'll drive thru town with the right signal on but never turn. Wanna bet on how many Bozo's I can take out that trust your signals?

I'm really not serious. I think. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

LOL @ the doughnut comments! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree with the I-75 in Mich as worst road I've ever been on: road has pot holes that will swallow anything smaller than an 18 wheeler, (the trucks up there have about 40 wheels!) and what was the comment about the buckeye drivers?/?;) must have ment we come up there to show you all how to drive! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey PR: arn't ya glad you put that seat belt on when ya saw him! lol J/K

PR: as for the summit good driver give away thing they have been doing that for a while now.

My SISTER has had a ride on the Good Year blimp! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (she was dating one of the lead/head GY execs.!) she also dated a few State Hyw patrols (got some of the best HOOCH from them that they confiscated!!) here in WAYNE county the Sheirfs are pretty cool, but the local city cops have a terriable macho complex and have little or no real training... (the local Cheif of Police was kicked out because he has never EVER taken 1 course of police training or certification!!! he said he was grandfatherd in! lol lieing bastage is what he is! glad he ain't a cop no more. He was involved in Police Harrasement with at least 20 people 3 of them in my family including myself! he had his boys arrest me while I was washing my car @ local carwash; said he had a warrent for my arrest (yet couldn't produce one) & said I was letting unlicenced drivers drive my truck, at the time I hadn't owned a truck in 15 years! still cost me over 1500 in lawer fees and I'm sure it is still on my driving record toboot. Kind of hard to PROVE you don't own a truck let me tell ya! get this the local prosocuter actually told my attny I was guilty untill I could PROOVE I didn't own the truck!!!! yep she was in cahoots with the locals)

I know about 20 cops personally, back in the day most were fine upstaning people, now I wouldn't trust more than 1/3 of them that are on the streets. also several druggie types told me best stuff in town was bought straight form the cops right on duty! (I don't and have never smoked pot! but don't care one way or other if anyone else wants to)

Anyhow I'm a firm beliver in the right to bear arms, I don't need a cop to defend me... Ohio is 3rd highest # of ploice for miles of roads other two are NY & california in that order. WHY does OHIO need so many cops, it seems we are always RIOTING to get back our civil rights so need more cops to take them away I suspose /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif You also see more national coverage about ohioans getting our civil rights crushed too only one you see as much about is CALifornis too. too many cops there too (spent 2 years there durring the rodney king & OJ riots and such...) it seems that where there are MORE cops there are MORE BAD cops because they want to STICK together and COVER for each other. (my GF's Sister was a cop for 6 yrs, when she told truth about an abusive cop she was beaten up and thrown down a flight of stairs by inmates that were MYSTERIUSLY let into the wrong place! messed up her back, later one of the guys involved said other gaurds told them to do it but refused to ID the gaurds as they were still behind bars... (she was a gaurd @ Mansy (Mansfield State Pen in Mansfield oh))

anyhow getting long winded... I'm sure you can tell I don't have a lot of use for 90% of the police deparments, all we need are a few GOOD sherifs! and a COMUNITY ORG to POLICE the POLICE not other cops, but volintiers that will watch the corption and keep the cops working to protect and serve the public not to serve them selves and their own power trips..

Michigan Drivers are the worst and I've lived all over the country. Although in Maine the people from Boston are referred to as MassHoles. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The Peoples Republic had me rolling except for the fact that driving with theese idiots is no joke. I used to live down River south of Flat Rock when I worked for the airlines. Monroe is a decent place. I never knew Custer was from Mi before I lived there. Now I'm by Rochester, Its all the same as the peoples republic here. I'm 42 and I need my depends every time I drive. Oh and I love those folks that use the left hand turn lane as a merge lane. You know....The "special" ones ! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif It's just waaay too much effort to go out the other side of that shopping plaza and set through a light so they try to nose out across three lanes of traffic pulling into a left hand turn lane blind....Then its a merge lane....Right ? The funniest thing happened by us a few years back. They put in a traffic circle by a new high school. People here were as confused as a turkey trying to cross a fence ! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
