I would be inclined to leave the sign in place.....

Yes, you heard that right.....

And make my own sign that would be placed next to the sign in question.

Big Red Arrow pointing to the sign in question.
Underneath Big Red Arrow
"This Business Placed This Sign Without Permission."
"They do not care about people's property"
"Why would you hire them?"

Or words to that effect. A big 4x8 sign can be done kinda cheap.

Another interesting idea! But 2 things: 1) I'd rather remain anonymous in this, & 2) That might actually bring him MORE attention/ business.

Possibly but I think his sign would disappear quickly. :D

It will get him attention but it will not be good attention.

Regarding jurisdictional ordinances that prohibit non-permitted signs which includes all signs that do not have the property owners permission ... in North Texas ... failure to pay fines for these violations ... will get you arrested. On September 1st of 2009 ... the police now treat those failure to pay items the same way they do failure to appear for moving violations.

I'd like to see a picture of the fence. Sounds to me like it is all by itself with no houses etc. around. I don't understand all the fuss. Just take it down. It's not like there was a sign put in the front yard or something.

Because he vandalized his fence is why.

I'm sure it'd be ok for the guy to put a sign on the side of your house, you can just take it down.

The "why would you hire them" part is what puzzles me in another aspect of advertising-
Why do companies put large graphics on their vehicles then let complete a-holes drive them pi$$ing off the motoring public everywhere they go? I know when I see some commercial vehicle speeding/cutting off people/tailgating/driving like jerks I make a mental note to never hire them for anything..

BTW many years ago I had a national pest control company driver flip me off....his boss and I had a nice conversation...bet he never did that again, at least not in their truck;)

A few months back, there was someone driving for a fairly large local pizza chain (in his personal car with their sign on the roof) who signaled for a right turn, pulled all the way into the right (leading my wife to start to pull around him to the left) then whipped his car around to the left and across 2 lanes of traffic. We almost tboned him, but thanks to some good braking by my wife we didnt. I called another store in the chain, got the number of his store, called and had a chat with his manager.
I imagine that he had an interesting meeting with his manager when he got back to the store.

Living in a small town we have a sign ordinance, but no one to enforce it. It's nice to think there is a law against putting up signs.

Seems like every corner gets them from time to time. I went to the town selectmen痴 meeting one night and asked what they can do about the signs and was told nothing.
But, our town doesn't have the money to have someone checking on all of the signs that get put up.

We take our turn taking down the signs as we see them. Makes some people mad I am sure, but so be it, report me!

I like Dan's idea. Then take a good quality picture and mail an 8x10 to the company with a good return address and see how long it takes them to remove their sign.:D

Now if you want to talk about interesting conversations with bosses...

...the last person who broke onto our property and ripped us off did it in their work van. The County Sherriff took a copy of the video (vehicle plate was readable in the video) down to have a chat with the company owner. I would have loved to have heard the conversation when he got back to the shop that day.:D
