I M PEA ODE!!! Advertising on MY FENCE

So, one day while I was mowing, I found a stack of advertising material (about 100 door hangers) partially buried in my yard by the highway. I called the contractor who they belonged too, and told him that whoever he had paid to distribute the flyers had failed, miserably. If they had thrown them in the garbage at the gas station, nobody would have known.

The funny part was, it was his out of work brother in law that had been paid to do the job:D, priceless.

I've found 2 of these plastic signs on my property. One was for a Hooters golf tournament at the golf course around the corner from my house. I moved it to a different golf course.

The other was a realty sign, and I used some projectiles to remove the number and name, but left the sign in place. It left very shortly after.

I vote for the nail it on their door solution with explanation. Practical, satisfying, and gets the point accross.

Most cities have a yard sign ordinance. If they do that kind of sign in that location violates those ordinances.

The penalty is a fine.

And that's fine with me.

The good thing about that is invariably the kind of person that would allow their advertising to be placed on another's property without permission is the same kind of person that would get belligerant with a code enforcement officer.

Let the fun begin.

The county I live in has an ordinance about all the signs you see everywhere. A couple of times a year the sheriff gets upset and sends out all the deputies to remove the signs all over the county. Huge waste of resources IMO. What I would do is call the numbers on the signs, tell them they have 12 hours to remove them or a warrant will be served on the owner of the business.
BTW an apartment complex down the street from my office once stuck a sign on our lawn. I pulled it up, took it home and found it makes an excellent target holder at the range..

I agree with Ecoslik..

With one exception. send them a bill, what would you charge for advertising on your fence??

Add space aint free, I even take car dealers stickers off my vehicles unless they want to subsidize my fuel cost :D

Draw up your own small sign that say's " Placement of advertising or any other sign on this property is acknowledgment of placer and or company that they agree to the landowners add space fees of $500 per square foot per month with discretion of sign due solely by the landowner. Thanks for your business"

I came home one day not too long ago and found a nice political sign on a 4 by 8 sheet of treated ply wood and 2 nice 8 foot treated 4x4 posts. This was in my front yard. Next to te stop sign on my place. I live at the peak of the hill along side a main county road. I called the candidate and asked him to remove the sign. Cant do it its on the state row. I told him its on private property and the county ROW ended at the edge of the pavement. We set a date to have it moved and the supervisor came out and witnessed it wasnt on the county. Im too much like my dad and let them have a few more days. I got to hear a few grumbles from customers about that politicians. I came i nthe next day and there was about fifty of the little realesate sized wire signs in the yard and around. I loaded them up and took apart the big sign and used it.

Nailing it to the front door is good, or to the tires on their truck would also work ;)

I think that like others said it might have been a contract job though it is fun to think about the possibilities as to WHERE you might nail it back onto them :D (think about a not so sunny spot.) ;) :p

I would be inclined to leave the sign in place.....

Yes, you heard that right.....

And make my own sign that would be placed next to the sign in question.

Big Red Arrow pointing to the sign in question.
Underneath Big Red Arrow
"This Business Placed This Sign Without Permission."
"They do not care about people's property"
"Why would you hire them?"

Or words to that effect. A big 4x8 sign can be done kinda cheap.

Later,
Dan
