VIDEO: So you want to TRADE UP for a new Tractor? - TMT - YouTube

My local Kubota dealer tells me Kubota will announce price increases of around 15% in January 2021. Dealer has a short period to order now at 2020 prices for delivery in 2020 or as available.

Thanks for the education Jeff. I was aware of rear axle width and tire ballast and made the appropriate adjustments on the L3901 prior to delivery with Ag tires. I wasn't aware of tractor weight, so I will research that more fully..

Jethro - the Grand L is not in my consideration. I have looked at them but they are pricey compared to an MX. Personally I think the MX is a better deal, but that is me.

Don’t get excited; a 45 acre lawn may be a little much. Look at alternatives such as wild prairie grasses and flowers. Much more beneficial than a large tractor and big lawn that eats into your spare time.

Now if you are really serious for a big lawn get a cabbed tractor with Geo positioning. That way you sit in air conditioned comfort doing whatever while the tractor steers itself!

I've really enjoyed viewing Messick's youtube videos. I always appreciate the education I get watching his videos.

I certainly understand. :). I tend to over analyze and over buy, thats usually where my regrets bite me. A MX is a fine machine. I saw where cruise control is standard on HST and it comes in handy on long stretches. Might want to hang on to the 6 footer for tight areas and backing under trees. Good luck.

We have lots of ground to mow and i do worry about the fawns and turkeys, So i usually wait till late june to start cutting the larger areas. I think the mx size tractor will work for you.

We have the same wildlife issues here too. The turkeys I don't so much worry about, but their eggs, I do. We've found several turkey eggs this spring and I waited until late June to start cutting to avoid any fawns, but by that time, the grass/foilage was quite high and left large clumps in the wake of the bush hog. I do like the MX, especially because of the additional leg room and power. I'm leaning toward a cab model vs an open station, but I haven't made my mind up yet. The cost difference between the two is about 10K.

I like the MX5400/6000 and I may opt for a cab model.
The cab model will have a moderately higher center-of-gravity, therefore cab model will be a little tippier on hills relative to an open station model.

Cab model weighs about 700 pounds more than open station model. The extra weight is almost all over the rear wheels, which is good. A light tractor needs plenty of weight on the rear wheels in order to maintain traction applying 60-horsepower.

Is a Kubota Grand L in your considerations? It would be difficult to have buyers remorse when it comes to features. The HST Plus transmission is top of the line. I believe cost is in the neighborhood of $5k over a comparable MX.

Value represents itself to each of us differently. Having said that, you don't know what you do not know. Almost all Grand L buyers have previously operated economy tractors, including moi. In nine years using this site I have never seen a 'Grand L' owner express regret on spending the extra money. Grand L tractors, but not Loaders, are entirely assembled in Japan and shipped to USA intact.

If you are retired or approaching retirement age and want a tractor to grow old with, give Kubota's Grand L models serious consideration. Your aging body will thank you every hour you spend on the (air-ride) seat.

Many more buy Toyotas than Lexus.

I like the L3901, it is agile, gets into tight places and is easy to drive - but it has one serious flaw. The ingress/egress of the tractor is a real pain. You can forget about getting off this tractor quickly.
You have to buy a Grand L in order to have a tilt steering wheel. No tilt wheel on the MX.
