At my work PSA means People Standing Around. What does it mean here? Thanks, Jeff Sent from my iPhone 2.0 using TractorByNet

Lol. I like that and will have to use that tomorrow at work.

It was funny to me first time it was used here but the production manager didn't like it. Plant mgr. asked Production mgr. why productivity was so low. Before he could reply an engineer said, "He's got a bad case of PSA." Everyone in the room except the Production mgr. laughed out loud.

Due to vision problems, that is a blind spot which has appeared in my right aiming eye, I am giving up my search for an AR and instead buying a Mossberg SPX930. Loaded with Low Recoil alternating 00 and #4 Buck it should be able to take care of any problem I might run up against.

Check for Macular Degeneration.

I do have a slight beginning of Macular Degeneration which was expected since my mother has it and it is a hereditary disease. I take the Occuvite vitamins for it. Supposed to cut incidence of it occurring in half and cut it's advancement in half once you get it. But this problem is something else. I am going to a Retinologist for it and following his advice. I still may purchase an AR but the shotgun would probably be better for a home defense purpose.

But, use of the term "MIL-SPEC" in advertising sure sold some Colt AR-15 rifles!

The relevant distinction is between a mil spec (or more properly, NATO) chamber, and a SAAMI chamber. They are not the same and they are different and whoever allowed the difference in the first place should be horsewhipped!

Two different chambers for the same caliber is unforgivable!

I was thinking about stopping by this company's Greenville SC store to check out their Ar-15s. The company's Web site says that "non-serialized merchandise cannot be picked up at the Greenville Store." What does this mean?

I am not certain but let me take a "shot" at it: and 80 percent lower receiver normally does not have a serial number on it. Since you are making it into a "gun". It is just a chunk of aluminum that is formed into the rough shape. There is still milling work, to be done. You can put your own serial number on it.

It most likely means what k0ua said, in which case, it's safe to buy it. What is NOT safe is taking that same "blank" receiver and making it functional. If you do, you have manufactured a gun according to the BATF, and now you are in a heap of federal trouble.

It could also mean that you have come across one of those deluded idiots that thinks he's exempt from federal laws, and he's selling illegal un-serialized receivers.

If that is the case, stay away! Don't even go into that store!

If they talk about "freemen" or "redeeming the straw man", or you hear talk about incorporating oneself, or any of that garbage, stay far, far away.

The chamber is NATO, but the manufacturing specs are "mil-spec"...meaning certain requirements in manufacturing and inspection methods. Frankly, I see "Mil-Spec" is more of an advertising gimmick rather then manufacturing a better rifle (and I worked in DoD contractor companies for years, if not decades).

I've always gone for the 5.56 "NATO" chamber since it will accommodate .223. It's my understanding one should not fire 5.56 ammo in a .223 chamber...something to do with the head spacing, IIRC.
