I'm new here - 1st thread - 1st post - been lurking - very confused, except I do know ya'll can help me spend on a tractor:D :D .

I'm buying a 2.4 acre piece of sloped old farmland property and will have to mow an additional 0.8 acre "dry" retention pond with as much as 45deg slopes. I will also be building a shed with slab and "farming" 1/2 acre (did this as a kid but with hand tools - too old for that now).

Being a "Hogg" I want a CUT (or SCUT) with a mmm & FEL to start and will be adding a tiller, blade and backhoe later, maybe more later.

I have red, orange, yellow & green within 20 miles of new house and lot.

I'd perfer to pay cash and not finance:mad: so i'll need to purchase stuff as I save.

What suprised me is SO approves of purchase:).

I do have time since it won't happen until early july.

thank you for haelping me.

What's your budget allowing you to spend? The guys on this site will have more insight on how to tell you to spend your money if they know what you are willing to put on the table. Plus, knowing your budget, and with that 45 deg. inclination, they'll be able to explore other options for you.

On TBN, it seems everyone gets to buy a new tractor each time there's a new member. Living vicariously through newbies, they'll help you make informed decisions, then when you bring it home and post a pic, it will be as if they can smell the diesel burning...and the smell of "new" all over again.

Good luck on your new place.

Good luck in your decision. I also used this site extensivle in deciding what tractor to purchase. I just purchased a Farmtrac 300DTC, which I will take delivery of when I return home from this week at work. I managed to find out that I was able to save a fair bit of money by paying for the tractor in advance, and having the machine ordered in. The original price that I was quoted was 15800(tractor and FEL), and by prepaying I got the same equipment for 14,500.

I looked at and compared many brands MF, JD, Kubota, NH, Branson, Mahinda, and Kioti. I decided on the Farmtrac due to the dealer being very close to home, the specs loked good when comparing it to the others, and certain options that were standard onthis tractor. The only other machine that I particularly cared for was the Kioti, but that dealer was a couple of hours away.

Anyway it cant hurt to ask the dealers if they have anything like this, and you should probably ask since most of the dealers i met with were expecting me to finance.

Good Luck

Visited 4 dealers on Sat. with varing results, especially since I won't be buying till July. I looked at CUTs in two places and SCUTs in two places

The green guy was reluctant to discuss what I needed and gave me a price of ~24k for a 2305 with FEL, 60" MMM and backhoe - which I thought was HIGH.:(

The orange dealer quoted 16.2k for a BX 24 + 1.6k for 60" mmm another dealer 18K for the whole package. Are these good prices???
I didn't think to get a quote for the B7610 plus FEL, mower, and BH. (Since it's a CUT I assume 20-21k)

The red (MF) dealer quoted me 17k for a leftover (1.2 hr) GC2310 with 54" mmm - I think this is a good price????

I also asked him for a quote on a 1523 plus accy.

MF 1523 4wd Hydro $10,995.00
MF 1505 60" Mower Deck $2,399.00
MF 1515 Loader w/48" Bucket $3,895.00
MF 1565 Backhoe w/ 10" Bucket $6,895.00
These seem reasonable.

Based on all the TBN input:D , TBN forums:D and dealer opinions an SCUT will do the job.
BUT realize now that my budget of 13k is unrealistic  to purchase a tractor for cash. So maybe I step up to a CUT with a MMM and get the other toys (impliments:D ) later and only finance:( a small amount.
I also considered the BX2350, GC2300 but I want (need?) a BH for retaining walls, patios & shed, but I think a 3PH BH is would stress the frame and couldn't really determine if any have subframe accy.

Thoughts?

I'm not an expert on the projects you describe but I don't understand why you need a backhoe for them. What does the backhoe do on those projects that you can't accomplish with FEL and rear implements? I ask because the backhoe is probably adding $5k or so to the price on many tractors.

Sorry to hear about your JD experience. It seems that JD dealer quality varies a lot. Locally I have an absolutely wonderful JD dealer, which counts for a lot even though all three of the local Kubota dealers are quite good. If you have a Kioti dealer nearby I would reiterate to check them out - the features/price ratio is excellent and their quality seems excellent for the most part also.

Finally, figure out what hp/size is useful and what price you can handle. I think you will find that the CUTs cost only slightly more than the SCUTs you're looking at, but have a significant bump in capability. You can get a smaller CUT like a Kubota L2800 in the range you're looking (not necessarily $13k though). The only SCUT I personally would look closely at would be the Kubota B3030 cab, because it gets you a nice cab at a far lower price than any CUT with a cab.

Z-Michigan,

I am tending toward an entry CUT, a Kubota B7510 or a MF 1523 with just a FEL and MMM, since I really don't need a BH for awhile. I think the B3030 will be too much tractor:D. (though can you really have to big a to(y)ol?).

Thank you for your input.

Morning RadioFlyerToo,

I live just down the road from you in Elverson. Congrats on the new property. I've got a BX-23 that I ended up buying used with 100 hours on it for 12,500. Since you aren't going to buy until July, you may want to consider watching E-Bay or the other local papers/web sites to find a good piece of used equipment.

One note on Ebay is that I won't buy anything that big without first looking at the product. Paying 12-13,000 for something site unseen is just crazy.

Morning Scott,

I have considered buying used BUT every time I buy a used product, no matter how I have it checked out, I end up with a a costly breakdown.

thanks for the suggestion.

maybe we should compare tractors;) when the time comes?

Hi Bob,
Last May's quoted price on the Kubota B7610 on turfs with LA352 FEL, 60" MMM and ballast box was $15750. Dressed out with filled rears, block heater, bucket hooks, and a rear remote ($$) it came to $17,100. You could probably shave at least $1000 off that by going B7510/LA302/54" MMM....so it's in your ballpark.

You may not need the rear remote, but you should definitely get bucket hooks and have the rear tires filled. The B7510/B7610 is the next step in size down from the B2630/B3030. If the Bxx30's seem too big and the BX's seem a tad small, the B7x10's are just right. I would think you could get a better deal now than if you waited 'til summer.
FWIW
