I have a new tractor on order and am trying to figure out what I would need from the Kubota website if I wanted to add a third function remote for the FEL and it is somewhat confusing to me. I am hoping someone can help me understand this. On the website I see the option for the Third Function Valve for Loader Implements. What else would I need to add to run let's say a Grapple? The tractor I have ordered is the L4060 with the FEL. I believe the handle for the FEL has a built in button for a third function remote. Do I still need to add the single hose quick coupler and the third function hose quick coupler?

You could add a diverter valve on the loader arms that will shift the curl flow to the grapple or switch it back for the curl function.

You could add a solenoid 3rd function to control the grapple using the switch on the lever handle.

You could run your grapple from the remotes on the back.

Do you want factory parts or would third party hyd work for you?.

Third Party would work. I am very unfamiliar with this part of the tractor. A divertor valve would be allot cheaper than a third function, correct?

I'm sort of lost here, why not just ask the dealer what needs to be ordered if you are looking at an OEM 3rd function?

If you are considering 3rd party, then you can either purchase a kit or source each and every part yourself.

If a person is to source each part and get the same parts that are in a complete kit, just get the kit, you will not save any money. Or you can build the system in some different way and save a few dollars.

I don't want to spend the extra money right now. I did ask the dealer about it and he said it would be under $1000 more. I'm already at the top of my buying budget, so I am going to wait. In the future, I may add this myself.

Thanks JJ. So if I buy the valve, I'll just need to buy the hoses/lines that go to the front of the FEL then, correct?

My curl function hoses would get disconnected from the FEL valve and go into this diverter valve along with the supply lines of the pump, then I would feed 2 hoses back to my curl function from the valve and also 2 lines to the front of the FEL. Does that sound correct? That is where I get a little lost on how this works.

You can get a diverter valve from baileynet.com for about $95.

Stackable Solenoid-Operated Circuit Selector Valve

It shows lever, but it is solenoid controlled used to switch the flow to two hyd circuits.

I have a third function on my L5740 and love it, but it's expensive, we ran hoses off the rear remote on our M8540 and will eventually put a diverter valve on another tractor, I have little knowledge on this so have depended on other members for guidance. Here are just a few threads.

Thanks for the links TripleR. So of what I read, I would need to purchase the valve and the hoses. I believe my FEL lever has a switch installed already in it that I could use for the valve. I think that is what the switch would be used for if I purchased a third function. I don't have the tractor yet to know for sure. Now the one thing I do want to use this for is a rock hound landscape rake. So if I switch over the valve to power the RH, since the RH will need to keep spinning while using it, I would have to hold the curl lever in the open position or it would stop spinning if I let it go. I hope that made sense.

I had my Kubota dealer install the 3rd function system. They used a WR Long valve - the entire setup - valve, hoses, new joy stick and installation time cost $1195. I use the third function with the grapple I just bought. Looking at the finished setup - I'm glad I had it done by experienced maintenance folks. I understand the basic idea behind the 3rd function but the plumbing, routing, electrical requirements would have been well beyond my skills.
