I still haven’t gotten the garden tiller out

Tilled my garden today. Added 30% tilled area (I hate grass anyway) to it. Getting ready for the apocalyptic food shortages to come…..

We had 28° this morning. Freeze again tonight. I did get rest of black plastic from last year removed today so I can till tomorrow.

Not tilling, but I dug my horseradish tonight. It's been in the ground for ? years and I've never harvested it so should be interesting to see how it came out. Then I went down the road to where there's an early patch of fiddleheads (ostrich fern) but they haven't started to show their heads yet. Tomorrow's snow will slow things a bit anyways.
How did the horseradish turn out after 7 years?

Better get another garage freezer and stock up on canning jars and lids now. Last year it was hard to find jars and lids late summer.

A garden tiller is one thing I'd use once and probably never again because I use no till. Now in small beds where the tractor cannot go.
I stopped using the tractor to till because of too much compaction from the tires. Tractor's a foot or so wider than the tractor, and the tiller will only loosen just so deep so there's a lot of spading/forking needed to loosen the soil up after using it. Got a small 5hp tiller I found for $50 on CL that does the job.
Hopefully things will warm up/dry out a bit in May so I can get going, or at least get the peas, lettuce, spinach, etc. in. Most everything else will wait 'til Memorial day week.

Got plenty of jars, but agree on lids. Couple years ago they were impossible to find.

I'm not sure yet. I don't want to wash it in the house, and it's too darned cold out there to use the faucet.

We’re able to do a few things while it’s still frosting, lettuce, radishes, onions. We planted this on March 4th. Already eating salads. More onion sets in the background. I need to try a cold frame one of these years.
