I think I\'m in love

I had some spare time and checked out a 2210 this afternoon. It's pretty schweet. Now if only my G110 was paid off, and I didn't need a new septic system, or a vehicle for the wife. . . I went to a dealer near my in-laws (~2 hrs from our house), and they were very nice. Answered all my questions, showed me how everything works, and when I told them what I intend to do with it and asked about a larger tractor, they actually told me that the 2210 was more than capable and not to throw money into a bigger tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Has anyone had experience with buying a new tractor from a distant dealer, but having warranty work done at the local shop? There are 4 dealers closer to our place, 3 owned by the same guy who we bought the mower from. They seem competent, but seem like they are always talking down to me since I'm not a farmer (we've got 3 acres, and are thinking about getting some more for a couple of 4 hooved pasture ornaments). The 4th guy is 45 minutes away, and I have no experience with him. There is an Agco dealer in town, and they have an excellent reputation, but obviously can't fix a JD on warranty. Is Agco a tractor worth checking out, especially considering the local dealer? I've been concentrating on JD and Kubota.

Hi there, I think if the AGCO dealer has a good rep and is easy to work with check him out. AGCO makes the ST22A which is comprable to the 2210, It is also the same company that makes the Massey Ferguerson GC 23XX series, I like the 2210 very much, but I wanted a backhoe so I went with the Massey GC 2310TLB. The AGCO tractor does not yet come in a TLB package. Woods does make a backhoe which will fit on the ACGO tractor.

Sounds like no one has tried or done this?

I didn't purchase from the nearest dealer nor the farest away either. My dealer is about 35 minutes away and is very easy to work with. Two warranty calls so far (for leaky batteries) and pickup & delievery is "no charge", at least to me.
Not much help on the Agco, I considered Deere, Kubota, and New Holland when looking.

I bought from a dealer that was not the closest. I saved a ton doing so. But, they were close enough if I needed warranty work. Any I neeeded, they sent me parts and service instructions. I was happy for that, as I would rather do the work myself than transport the tractor for minor stuff.

But I would give the same advice. Go only as far to buy as you are willing to go for service. No one can guarentee that the local delaer will be able to do as well for you if he is not your selling dealer... I am toying with the idea of trading, so I sent out bid requests to dealers that I found on deere's locator and was surprised that a nearby dealer almost matched JD Equipments quote (JD in London Oh is a leading long distance deere seller...) I was very pleased with any dealings that I have had with JD Equipment. But I would surely be happy paying the small surcharge to deal with a dealer in the next county.

One last point. If you have a machine now, wait tilll the end of summer. there are rumors of new 2000 series machines. Once more is known, you will have a better idea of whether you'd rather have the current line or new. If the new is really good, there will be lotsa trade-ins. Course if its really good, you'd probably want IT....

I traded to the 2210 with a dealer that was 35 minutes away. I have one that I was dealing with only 5 minutes from my house but was tired of the pricing practice the owner was doing. He would tell you a ball park price and then when you agreed to do the deal the price on paper would be a lot higher.
I had no problem with their service but considering the amount of money I spent with them they did not go out of their way for me one bit.

We had a thread going some time going on the 50 hour service. One of the points that came up was the cost of getting the dealer doing this. My parts came to $108.00 but some one else who used the dealer, because he felt that this would protect the warranty etc ended up paying about $ 500.00. May I suggest that you get a quote from the dealer for this service. I think this will give you some idea of their receptiveness to helping you and the costs involved

I too agree with checking out the Agco & Massey. I have a BX2200 but I thought the Agco had a quieter engine. Also the blade speed on an Agco mower is really high 18,856 so it should mow really well.

Thanks for all your replies. Sounds like I should definitely check out the Agco since they are local. I kinda like the Masseys, I wonder if I could get one through them? I see several people driving around those red tractors near our place. I'll check out those boards and get some other opinions.

My "local" JD dealers are 30, 35, 45 and 45 minutes away. The place I was at this past weekend was 2 hours from home. I think the closest Kubota dealer is 45 mins also. I'm mechanically inclined and would prefer to do small repairs myself (as long as I can get some instructions), but have neither the tools or experience to do a major repair.

Not to hijack my own thread or anything, but. . . I'm also probably going to buy a truck long distance to be serviced locally. Anybody have any experience with this? Yes, I live in a small town (900 people), and in Iowa it's hard to find a big city with enough new car dealerships to make each other competitive. Even in Des Moines there isn't much competition within the city. To compare prices I have to call dealers within a 50-100 mile radius from our house. But I digress. . .

Yup. That was me. Just a couple pennies shy of $500, but they did load the tires in that price. See if you can get this thrown in! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You might be able to get a Kubota BX23 or the MF 2310 with a back hoe for 2 or 3 k more than the JD2210.

You couldn't add the BH to the JD 2210 for anywhere near that.

You need to do a lot more comparing and shopping around than you have.

</font> They also make one for the JD 2210 but if he goes that route with the JD2210 he will propably have a ton more money in it than if he just goes with the Kubota BX23 or the MF 2310.

Yeah, I know I have a lot more to learn and more research to do. I've only recently started thinking about getting a tractor. Since my first post, I've also checked out the GC2310, Massey 1500 series, Kubota BX2300, NH TZ or smaller TC series, DX's. . . And by checked out, I only mean I've started looking at their respective websites.

When I started looking at CUT's, we had a Kioti in the shop for some service work (even though we are not a Kioti dealer). I really liked the size and handling characteristics of the Kioti. I started doing some research on the Kioti and other makes of CUT's. Our dealership had never had a 2210 on the lot and to be quite frank, I wasn't aware that they even existed. One of our salespersons found out that I was looking at a Kioti and presented me with a package deal that was only $300 higher than the Kioti. I made a trip to a city that had a JD dealer, Kioti dealer, Agco dealer, and Mahindra dealer and spent the day test driving and asking questions. After having done that, I came back home and had our salesperson order the 2210. Even with the extra $300 the 2210 is well worth the difference in ease of operation, and knowing that parts will be available for many years. It doesn't make any difference what brand the tractor is, if it has moving parts, at some point something will need to be replaced.
Not to mention the fact that if I had purchased an orange tractor, it would have to have good lights because I would only be able to use it at night when the neighbors couldn't see what color it was. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
