Since I was waiting for a solenoid. I decided to pull the old one off. I bumped it a few times hoping it was just sticking. I decided to bump the starter before I put it back on and the tractor fired up without the solenoid. Luckily it has a manual turn off at the pump, but if nothing else it proves it is the solenoid. I appreciate the help. Hopefully the solenoid is here Monday.

Is there any chance the solenoid was just stuck? If you put it back in does it work? I am assuming that it is not much of a job to R&R.

No I played with it hoping to free it up but once reinstalled it once again refused to crank. Still aggravating to have to rely on the good folks at a message board versus the dealer.

Is this tractor used for your business? My dealer has a policy[ different brand] of getting you a loaner,while your tractor is down. Normally a person couldn't afford to lose a weeks wages or rent a replacement machine. If part wasn't a warranty item you might get it faster from a bigger dealer online. If your dealer was really concerned,he would get you the solenoid off one of his tractors,replace it when your part comes in. Hope you make out fine. plowking

I don't know if it could be related, but I have an old MF 135 that recently had a starting problem. I told my son I thought the solenoid was bad, so he took it off and rebuilt it(he's a mechanic). He checked some other things, and told me to try it. It cranked, and ran good for a few days. This time he checked it himself, not listening to my suggestions. He told me I had a ground problem some where. I checked all the attachment points. I had a new ground cable for the nattery, so I decided to replace it. That fixed my problem. Even though it looked good, and continuity checked with a meter, the cable had some corrosion inside, and wasn't getting full contact at times. Hope this helps.

If you want to continue to use your tractor you can remove the solenoid and cut the shaft off. put the solenoid back in and use the manual shut off on top of the pump like you did before.

If you are not sure if it is actually the solenoid, or the electrics that control it...

Hold off on ruining it unless you are sure...

Try checking the relay, It's on the firewall, right side. Above the Hydralic pump. Hold your finger on it and turn the key off/on, you will feel it "click" if it's good. (it's got the "orange" connector)

It is the solenoid. The dealer had to reorder another after getting the wrong one in. I modified the old one to get the tractor running while I wait for the new one.
