It is nice to to have someone truly understand. It could have been an older person hanging on and I would have said the same thing. It is about common sense and safety......If people would stop to think a little, here was a person that only had a new tractor for roughly a week with little to no experience himself and is already doing these types of things.... Just imagine as time goes on what might unfold. I am happy that so many people seem to think that this type of behavior is training for children/adults and get away with it day in and day out.... But the day your child or friend is killed or paralyzed for life, don't expect everyone to be so sympathetic and show up to the spaghetti dinner to raise money so you can plant them.....

No, I probably wouldn't for a spaghetti dinner....

....but I might for a fish fry!

The reason the government has to step in is because the vast majority of people have no common sense. No different than passing a law that when it is raining headlights must be on. This is exactly why I started this thread.

First point of contention is that the government does NOT have to step in.
Unfortunately, some folks have a pathological need to tell other people what to do, or can't stand someone else doing something that makes them happy and doesn't effect anyone else.

Bingo! I have 3 kids, and there is a world of difference between them. Our oldest, a girl, is now 10. She is responsible, and we call her the mother hen. She does her best to keep the other 2 in line. I would trust her with quite a few responsibilities.

Our son, 8, is completely irresponsible, has no self control, cannot seem to think past the end of his eyebrows, and you can't even trust him to put his socks in his drawer! We can't trust him to go outside to ride his bike by himself because we don't know where he would end up. To his credit, he does have ADHD. I have mentioned to my wife that he will NEVER be able to drive my tractor or any of our vehicles! :)

Our youngest is 4, and she is following in her brother's footsteps. We don't know what we are going to do with her!

Bottom line, you have to treat each kid differently. I was mowing grass by myself when I was 8. I learned to drive by backing boat trailers down the boat ramp when I was 13. No way would my son be doing either of those...there is just too much responsibility involved, and he does not have it in him.
I feel sorry for all 3 of your kids. You're not investing in your son because he's too much work, so he will never develop any sense of responsibility, while missing the trust and confirmation of his parents, and your oldest daugher takes responsibility for the other two because YOU dont step up... Its just not fair.
And YES i know what i'm talking about, a 10 year old mother hen and two ADHD kids in the same house.... I dont feel sorry to offend you, just want to give you a piece of my mind for your own (and your childrens) good.

Wow, assume much?

You didn't offend me, because I cannot be offended by clueless jerks who don't bother to gather any facts before condemning someone for something they didn't do. You know, I have a whole book that I could write, but you just aren't worth it. I have better things to do, such as fixing special meals for my ADHD son so that he can concentrate in school without resorting to the use of the amphetamines that they pass off as ADHD meds.

While I am not sorry if I offended you, I do feel sorry for you for criticizing the parenting ability of someone you don't even know, and have no clue as to the trials that they have gone through as a parent.

OK this may actually cause some people to explode in this thread:

.

She's probably on her way to some factory to work a 20 hour shift making products to be sold at Walmart. This whole thread is one big example of one of the reasons this country is going to pot. We concern ourselves too much with the actions and happenings of stuff that isn't our business and waste too much time worrying and complaining. People who are off their "do-nothings" doing something productive don't need bothered by anyone's opinions. The people with the opinions need to get off their "do-nothings" and do something productive.

If ya got time to give enough attention or thought to form an opinion about something that's none of your business, you're wasting your time and being unproductive (a.k.a. worthless).

It was a waste of my time to respond to you but it was my choice. Glad to see you use your time so productively. Now go to walMart and stock up so that lady can have a job and feed her family.
