If you are looking at dumping from one side or another, an old gravity wagon might work. Not sure how easily you could stop the flow of gravel, probably depends on rock size. Looks like your loader could go high enough to fill it. There are several sizes of gravity wagons. Probably one of the smaller ones, about a 200 bushel or 300 bushel might work. A friend uses one to store coal in. Just throwing out the idea.

Just spitballing some ideas here:

3pt vs wagon system will depend on how much space you have to maneuver on your trails.

I was thinking earlier about using a chute system (think cement truck) to direct the stone where you wanted it. That was in conjunction with using a rotary hopper feed system (think water wheel) - then I saw BHD's post with the auger.

Depending on what size aggregate you're planning to use; a hopper system that feeds into an enclosed auger on a swivel might be just the ticket. You can control how much stone you drop and exactly where you put it. And this could be used on either a 3pt or trailer mounted solution.

- On the question of gravel size, since it's going on bare dirt/mud, I'm using #2's.
- One comment to keep in mind in my situation, time is a factor. Property is 1:20 from home, and I have 5 kids 7-15 yrs old; so free time is at an extreme premium. That rules out just using the bucket. Time spent at home building a contraption is still "free time", once I'm away from home, I'm on the clock (unless I can convince a majority of the children to come along, which is hard due to numerous activities).
- I presently have no ability to turn around on the trails themselves, and some spots are probably too tight/sharp for too long of a trailer. My 1st turn around point is about 3/4 mile from base.
- Considering complex-ability of building and time available, I'm still leaning towards a 3pt dump system. The bare minimum, which I'm fairly certain I could achieve, would be a simple box I can shove out of with a shovel. Ideally, it would have a variable opening gate that I could control with the 3pt controls.

You may look at 3PT dirt scoops and 3PT carry alls, maybe come up with something combining those two things. I'm afraid your going to find that something on the 3PT will be about as slow as using the bucket, sounds like a interesting project. Have fun and be safe with it most of all.

Get yourself a trailer that can handle the width of your bucket, throw some stone in it and pull it backwards with your tractor also going backwards, when you get to a spot, unhook the trailer, scoop some stone, back up and fill the spots, pull ahead again, hook up and continue.:confused2:

Another way to haul more gravel (without having to load by hand) in one trip and still be able to turn around is buy a 36" wide dirt scoop.

36 Reversible Dirt Scoop 3-Point

Most are 24' or 30", so it might be hard to find a used 36".

I would agree with Countrybumkin and Xfaxman that the rear scoop idea is simplist and better option.
1. You will want rear ballast on the 3 pt when carrying loads of rock that diatance in your loader, the rear scoop loaded will serve this purpose.
2. It is self loading by simply backing inot the pile of rock, no need to be hooking and unhooking from any attachment or trailer. The rear scoop Xfaxman pictured holds about 5 cu//ft. Time saved in loading and dumping will likely offset any extra trips.
3. Easy to manuver in tight corners.

Rather than worry about how to dump off to the side, I can think of 2 otions.
1. Cheapest - carry a rake and shovel with you, dump what is needed from either loader or scoop then push it with the rake to side where needed.
2. Carry and dump rock at all the spots first then remove rear scoop and use an angle blade to move and smooth the rock into the spots.

Have you tried a heavy box blade? Is there enough material on your trails to distribute? After all, you don't need a highway for a sap run.

instead of a dumper on a wagon...I'd always thought about a live bottom, like a conveyor like the big trucks have... there was a company that made a device with a roll up tarp for a truck bed...but im thinking more so a conveyor belt, could be turned with a starter and flywheel arrangement as u would only need short slow bursts..not sure how the real ones work but there common for hauling gravel from pits and such. and I don't see why one couldn't be built fairly cheap... would give you complete control of how much was dumped where and no shoveling!!! and hold a **** of a lot more then a bucket full!!
