Re: I\'m Gonna Drill My Rops...

I thnk that you should. It is your ROPS and you should be able to do with it what you want to.

Re: I\'m Gonna Drill My Rops...

Curmudgeon,

You said....
If the ROPS failed, the manufacturer would certainly claim that. But the actual case is a little more complicated.

A forensic engineer would want to determine exactly what caused the failure. What load was the ROPS designed to carry? What load was the ROPS actually subject to? Did the modification weaken the ROPS in a way that contributed to the failure? For example, if you drove the tractor off a 100 foot cliff, landed it on the ROPS, and squashed yourself flat as a pancake, it would probably not be held that your 1/2 inch hole was a significant factor

Yup. That's why I also said....

Example: If you have a landscaping business and an employee is injured or killed becasue a ROPS failed, you are less likely to be held negligent as long as the equipment had all of its safety equipment intact and in good working condition, as certified. Of course you might be liable from negilgence for putting the operator in some unsafe condition, but the upstream participants in the design and manufacture of the equipment are the ones in hot water for a ROPS failure unless you, or your employee, have modified the ROPS or some other safety device on the machine.

When there is a breakout of the magnitude of liability from a variety of sources in any given accident, it is usually called "Contributory Negligence." The foreman and the company who had the guy operating the tractor next to the cliff in your example are in deep doo-doo. The tractor company and any of the resellers could argue that even a ROPS of original integrity and certification could not have saved our pancaked operator. It's the simple rollovers where the mods might count. Not the ones where you might have needed a parachute. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

BTW, I'm looking at that magnet solution. rather than be intrusive. If someone could post a picture, I would appreciate it. Just make sure it's the right size so I don't have to drill a hole in the side of my monitor to see the whole picture /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Better watch your back...... when you start agreeing with the Jukman, you never know what might happen!!

I know! My basement workshop is already starting to look like The Junkman's garage does (in that picture Junkman posted a while back)... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m Gonna Drill My Rops...

Darn you Henro!!!!!! I don't care if you drill 20,000 holes in your ROPS, but I do mind when you post pictures that are too large for my monitor and I have to keep moving the cursor to the right and left to read all the comments.

Junkman...wonder why that happens? Doesn't happen on my screen...

I did not really post that picture, but did reference the spot where it resides at TBN, after it was posted as an attachment by dbelisle.

Is this a no-no? I have seen others do the same thing...I guess I could have downloaded it and then attached it as an image from my hard drive...as I normally would. But I thought that would end up taking up more hard drive storage space at tbn, since it was already there to begin with.

Anyway, I kind of like it when I hear you whining... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just joking... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS...as a learning experience I am going to try to attach that picture to this post by pasting the URL into the "attach a file" field before posting this...

EDIT: guess that way of attaching doesn't work. I tried to attach: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forumfiles/380495-rops.jpg

Re: I\'m Gonna Drill My Rops...

Here is the post following the picture. You can clearly see that I would have to keep moving the mouse, right and left to see the entire text. I have tried to shring the text by holding down the cnrl button and rolling the mouse wheel, but it doesn't work that way on this site. Other sites, it will make the text larger or smaller...... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: I\'m Gonna Drill My Rops...

Junkman, you're a smart fella... Do I have to point out the obvious to you?

You have stumbled upon the perfect excuse to get a new monitor /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now, get out there and do some shopping. Don't bother with a 19in either. Go for a 24in wide-screen like I use at work.

Re: I\'m Gonna Drill My Rops...

Mine too Junkman. Maybe it's time to go with the 19" monitors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
