dickfoster I like your plan. Always thought a flat tax or consumption tax made a lot of sense. Unfortunately I think if we went that route it wouldn't take long though for politicians to start carving it up for special interests

That's want part two of the plan is for. I'm taking the checkbook away from the politicians and giving it back to the people who have to cash the checks and you only get to write checks on the money you yourself put in. You know, like how the rest of us have to live. Wouldn't it be nice to have all of those bureaucrats begging for your money and their existence for a change? It simply could not be any more of a democratic concept.

We pay sales tax on food as well here in MO.

Yikes. You gotta pay tax to eat basic food (not served food)?

Yep. Tax on grocery items is reduced 3% lower than the standard sales tax but is still taxed nonetheless.

That is just plain not right

Same here in Illinois. Our grocery tax rate is 1% for unprepared food, and the regular sales tax rate of 6.25% on prepared food and beverages.

Sounds like incentive to grow a garden, a steer, and a hog.

Oops! Let that idea slip out. Here come the tax police....

There are some who think it is our job is to pay taxes.

Here in Ohio we pay sales tax on food as well, not sure what it is because I have never paid attention to it, it's always been there.

Let's see here, I'm gonna think of a few taxes lol

If you have a job in Ohio you pay income tax, local, state and federal. We pay a yearly fee for driving on the roads (Stickers for license plates), we pay tax on the fuel to drive, we pay a tax on food (fast food to grocery store), if you own a house you have to pay property taxes, if you buy anything that has a title (boat, rv, quad, house, tractor, motorcycle ext. new or used) you pay sales tax, I'm not sure if utilities are taxed or not, again never paid attention to the bill.

So if you have a job and make money, that money can be hit very hard with taxes by the time it ends up on the principle of whatever your buying, income tax is over 30% plus all the other taxes listed above, if someone were to figure all the taxes in I bet it's close to 50% of what we make. That's as much as many socialist nations pay and I don't even get free healthcare lol.

Australia has a 10% GST (Goods & Services Tax) on practically everything except fresh produce & basic food items. That money goes to Canberra and then gets redistributed to the States by some calculated formula. Whether you buy a car or get a haircut, it doesn't matter, 10%.

Yes there is annual, local, property taxes... mine is a wopping A$1,400.00. No, I didn't drop a zero. That's it for the entire year.

And the State will hit you up for vehicle rego, plus there're hidden costs (sin taxes) in a litre of fuel.

The UV rays down here can be brutal so that's why my tractors live in a 5-bay shed and my ute is under a carport. (just to bring the thread back 'on track'. :))
