I agree. Kids will ALWAYS be kids and no matter how much we dislike some of the things they do - we need to remember this.

I used to ride dirt bikes as a kid, but always got permission before I rode on others property. I had an experience with a cable someone decided to string across a public dirt rode. Fortunately I saw it, and have never forgotten it.

NY requires you to be in a club to ride trails designated for that use. The clubs buy liability insurance through the state which is the policy holder for the insurance. All of this is paid through registration payments which are now $45 up from $15 2 years ago. The clubs get a waiver from the landowners for liability waivers and the clubs do a heck of a job keeping sleds on the area's they should be.
ATV just don't have this type of support here. I don't think you could get sued as the landowner if someone is trespassing on your property unless the intent was to harm on purpose.
Soundguy and others here did what they had the right to do. Without support from others or the state I'd do the same thing. It seems in NY anyway the cooperation from everyone is making it possible to do both with everyone being satisfied.
In NY sleds are a 750 million dollar business. We had an insurance issue 2 years ago which shut down trail riding for a week in January. The Attorney General got involved immediately and it was handled quickly. The power of the all mighty dollar at work for you

ATV's are a real problem everywhere it seems.

I disagree - ATV's are not the problem - people are.

Please don't think 1 or 2 people are the norm. There are alot more respectful riders than not. I know - I ride and see them.

If they cant be sued, then why do they need liability waviers?? You bet the landowner can be sued.

BTW, in my experiance, it isn't kids. At least age wise.

in NH by giving permission for the trail, the landowner is covered under the policy the state has.

( The state park that we abut is on federal property managed by the Corps Of Engineers. This dike ends at our land. Last winter we had a problem with snowmobiles coming down & around the gate & into our field, then up our driveway. A orange plastic fence put a stop to it & this summer I took more permanent measures. )

How deep of snow do you get along that dike? The fence doesn't look all that tall (or the road barricade), and if the snow is deep enough, then they might just drive right over it, and never even know it's there. If the dike is parallel to the prevailing winds too, the fence might act like a snow fence, and create a drift that buries the fence too.

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

Soundguy, thanks, we love the property. It really is a small percentage of the riders that cause the problems, but it causes a lot of anguish.
Sorry if I hijacked the thread, it's a real hot button with me.

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

The snow doesn't get that deep here. We get plenty but, it doesn't accumulate much over 2' or so, usually less. If it does, I'll put some reflectors or something to prevent someone from getting hurt.

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

What about some NO TRESPASSING signs and putting a legal note in the local paper. People here do that during hunting season. I just put out salt blocks, cant hunt within 300' of them and property lines dont count on that.

I would do both, flags and signs
