I'd be a little frustrated as a taxpayer that the state is paying to cover the liability generated by the most idiotic of our society.

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

Actually, in NH snowmobilers support most of this including the paying the policy (I believe). Out of every sticker, a couple of dollars goes to Fish and Game for enforcement, some goes to trail maintance, and some goes to equipment purchase. I believe the ATV's have the same situation, but also local Police Departments can get grants to purchase equipment (ATV's) and pay for enforcement.

It's a pretty nice setup. Snowmobiling is one of the top money makers for the state, and is relativley self funded. Some states take money from the funds to help balance the budget or whatever there whim.

The policy also cover's bikers, mushers, walkers and Horse back riders who use the trails we maintain.

Hi Phil, I am sorry to hear about the issues. I was wondering if considered gates? If we have a trail, and there are problems like this, we will work the the landowner to correct the issue. If a gate is needed, we will put one in (our money, not landowners).

Don't mean to butt in, but there are not a lot of trails so we try to bend over backwards for the ones we do have.

Soundguy,
The visibility items are a nice safety touch. However as long as a fence is of an approved type for your area....well fences go up everyday and if someone hits one it would seem to be their problem. In case of an incident just do not say I put it up to keep them out, just to keep livestock in or out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A friend of mine has had a lot of problems with 4 hellers and after the fence was erected it was cut. A hot low impedance charger seemed to cure that problem /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

Dave,
The local club did offer me a gate. They would lock it and issue keys to club members to use. But I was worried this would cause the 4 wheelers to just make their own entrance.

I am aware of all the items you presented to both Docheb and to me. All this info was provided to me by the local snowmobile club. As I said I never had issues with them. They were polite and freindly when they approached me. Any the snowmobilers who used the trail were freindly and respectful. Never any trouble with hikers nor mountain bikers neither.

It is a shame a few renegades can ruin it for all. Jim Harrigan, a columnist for the Union Leader and a newspaper owner himself writes about this often. More and more land in the north country is being posted.

It is an important revenue stream for NH. But there wheeled vehicles cause problems. The spur trail in my yard hooks up to the Derry-Rockinham trail. The trail actually starts in Windham but Windham has worked to seal it up. Lots of homeowners complaints about wheeled vehicles. They fought the state with little success so they closed off public access in Windham.

Derry recently acquired an ATV with a grant. They are working to address complaints.

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

Maybe the law should allow confiscation of the atv/snowmobile from the offender. With a little enforcement, word would get around quickly. I think it would address a lot of the problems we have with these individuals. A public auction of the machines could put money back into the budgets for the local police dept. and the Fish & Game dept. Maybe a 50/50 split between state & local. It also seems more friendly than my thoughts of lethal enforcement /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Yep.. barb wire and t-post are common. One parcel boardering mine is barb wire as well.

Actually.. wouldn't even be a lie... I am renovating that pasture for just that purpose... livestock.. and the fence was just another step towards that goal.. albiet.. a little sooner than I planned.

Then you must be really, really frustrated that the extra money you paid is used to cover the liability generated by the most idiotic of our society.

Re: I\'m wore out! - fencing

Well, it has been 2 full days since i contacted the Sheriff's dept. -again-, asking for a 'second opinion' from the dispatch supervisor, on whether they would fill out an incedent report for me or not. ( As most of you know, my first call to the dpt. I was told that they wouldn't come out or fill out an incedent report unles the tresspassers/vandals were actually there.. right at the moment I called.. )

Boy.. it's hard trying to get the 'enforcement' portion of 'law-enforcement' going if they won't even talk to ya...

If no communication by end of the day, I guess I move on up the food chain to the sheriff himself, and then the next step would be to talk to the guy running against him in november elections, and send a letter to the newspaper editor..... all I want is a little bit of lip service.. nothing major... just some sort of justification on why I'm paying property taxes.. etc..
