We diagnosed a glow plug pre heat problem today. Swapped out the key switch for a new one. That fixed that problem. Now its ready for a pull.

Good luck and we'll keep our fingers crossed.:D

I just had the FITS trying to get our tractor started after a new injection pump was installed.

one thing I DID learn from that experience though...

I think you said you are not getting any fuel out of the lines at the injectors?

(preface... this is for MY situation, yours might be different)

Turns out that the injector pump we have can NOT be put on wrong in any way shape or form (as long as that devious little drive pin isn't missing!)

Anyways... I cranked ours enough that I had to recharge the battery three times.

Finally, I took the pump off, ready to take it back to the shop and on a LARK, I turned the drive knob on the front of the pump and with just a turn of my fingers, more fuel came out than I had with the tractor turning the pump (because the tractor was NOT turning the pump!)

So...

Now that I know what I know... if I was in the same exact situation and didn't have a starter, I'd probably take the injection pump off and MAKE SURE that it can only go back on ONE way so I can't screw that up.

After I'm sure of that, then I'd attach the lines (all of them) and reach my fingers between the pump and the housing and use my fingers to rotate the pump a bit. That shouldn't build as much pressure as cranking with the starter would (or so I'd think) and would allow you to perhaps bleed the system and get 99% of the air out in a relatively safe way. once (presuming so) the fuel started to work its way out of the fuel lines at the injectors, I'd tighten them down, re-attach the pump and then pull start it.

Last, I'd simply get a starter when ever possible because it's going to be really problematic to start this with one person while pulling it. I'd not want it started in gear behind our truck and no way to get back to it to control the tractor. That means you ALWAYS need two people to start it....

Just some of my random thoughts.

Good luck with it and be persistent!!! You'll get through it.

Thats more great advice. Better weather today. Going to have to bribe the Father inlaw to help. I definately buy a starter ($450.00) if its worth fixing. The last machine i was given was a 1710 and had to rebuild clutch and other goodies. All said and done i probably spent a grand and theres no hood and its got lots a blowby and smokes a bit. I left it at the father in laws to plow garden with. I hate dumping $$ into junk machines. Im learning.

Finally got my dear father-in law to give me a hand today, and its his birthday. First tried pulling with 1st injector line cracked(the line closest to the radiator) and got some fuel out. I wasnt able to pull faster than say 5mph. Injector 2 only put out fuel when compression fitting removed. I then removed ALL of the lines to see whats working. I got fuel out of 1 and 2 but nothing out of #3. i dont believe fuel made it to ANY of the injectors. Once again carefully used starter fluid and still wouldnt turn over. Heard a nasty knock though with the fluid but very short burst.I wasnt sure what that knock was, maybe from ether? Im thinking next move is to remove injectors and have em tested? If i remove the injectors is there any special procedure i need to follow? Thanks.

Might want to take pump and injectors to be tested.

I havent gotten too many responses after that. Not good. Sounds like the jury is in. Remove pump and injectors and surrender to theb diesel shop. Thanks to all. Ill post follow ups in the future.

I be careful with that ether. I've read that they blow diesel motors. Have you checked compression?

Just a 1.5 second shot of Ether is all that is required . The knock is detonation which means you gave it a little too much . If it did not run for a short time on the Ether you have other problems as the Ether temporarily does away with the fuel system .

I'm no diesel expert, but removing the three lines from the injectors could possibly result in fuel from just one or two lines depending on the capacity of the pump. These are probably high pressure/low volume pumps and to check that third line, reconnect one or both of the lines receiving fuel. If you can remove the pump, maybe that could be driven by a drill to check its output.
On using starting fluid; I have a 2 cylinder Satoh diesel and this one defiinitely recommends that starting fluid is not to be used because the pistons could blow due to high impact. That might not be your case.
