Inconsiderate Idiots at the gas station

i don't know of a single pump in my area that will let you swipe mor ethan once without going inside.. thus I can't do the 2 pump thing.. though i'm long enough on the trailer to take the whole isle and do so..

I do it all the time, getting my gas for the truck, and diesel or mower gas on seperate tickets. I used to drive over a 100 miles per day, for 25 years. If I got pissed off at every boob on the highway, I'd blown a gasket a long time ago. That 5 or 10 minutes is nothing in the long run.

You might have been considerate to phone ahead and tell them you were on youyr way. I'm sure they would have been better prepared for your arrival.

I pulled up to a gas station the other day and every pump was being used except 1 of the outside pumps that happens to be a diesel/gas combo pump, I started filling up my pick-up with gas and about half way through a fellow in a 1 ton dually diesel pulled up behind me and it only took a minute to figure out that he didn't like the fact that I was using that pump, he asked me why I wasn't using 1 of the other pumps and I told him that they were all full when I pulled in a few minutes ago, he then proceeded to tell me that I should have waited in 1 of the other lines and left that pump open, I had listened to all I wanted to hear and told him that since he thought it wasn't un-reasonable to wait that the best thing he could do was get back in his truck and sulk, he did and there wasn't another word spoke between us. I can see in a deal like that where someone would perceive that I was being rude with several pumps open, but they weren't when I pulled up, his perception was not reality.

if it's a dual pump.. and no other pumps open.. 1st come 1st serve. no fault in that. The diesel driver was IMHO, inthe wrong on that one.

"Well, if you (speaking generically, not Sguy particularly) go to a small congested gas station at a busy time of day, then what the __________ do you expect ?"

Mostly, how people react to a commonly known problem falls into a couple of broad categories:

1) Come up with an alternate solution.

2) Mitigate, minimize, or ignore the conflict.

3) Amplify the problem, and spend a great deal of energy and time obsessing about it.

I know which approaches I prefer. This thread has good examples of all three.

Okay I fill up 5-7 days a week. I know that around 7-8 there is going to be a line at the station I go to that has 18 pumps, six of which are combo pumps. More than half the time I have my 28' gn trailer with me. There are certain pumps that are easier for me to get to and out of. I can patiently wait my turn, but I guarantee my blood will boil if the pumps are busy and somebody is parked at the pumps while doing their grocery shopping.

When I got out of high school I pumped gas for a year or so. Back in the days when the gas pumps weren't covered. Folks would come in to get gas in a monsoon with 50 MPH winds. They would roll their window down 1/4" and talk through the crack in the window. They didn't want to get wet. And some wanted their tires checked while the water was pouring down my back. We are dealing with their children.

I had the same experience at -50 in a blizzard, but add the ignorance factor of cell phones, and the refusal to set them down.

Life is too short to fixate on the occasional "idiot" at the gas pump. If that's all there is to complain about then life must be pretty good.

Also, I have a pet peeve about individuals who subscribe to the group mentality that somehow Prius owners are, just because of the model car they drive, inconsiderate or tree-huggers with better-than-thou attitudes or any other ridiculous stereotype perpetuated by people who for some reason take pleasure in slamming their fellow human beings. Good God, are you people in the third grade?

And "foreign" cars? News flash: Almost everything you own is foreign made. Geez... I thought the Internet would help make the world a smarter place. No sign of that in this thread.

There is a town out here that subscribes to that tree hugging better than thou attitude. I agree Handicap parking should be closest to the doors of business, but that town has Reserved For Fuel Efficient Vehicles signs over the next 3 closest parking stalls. No laws enforce it, just a publicity stunt. It's funny how many big pickups you see parked in those stalls. Figuring everything in this universe is relative, hook a Prius to a 28' trailer loaded with pipe then drive 100 miles and see what kind of fuel mileage it gets.
