infrared space heaters

My mom has an unheated guest room and uses one of the oil filled electric radiators. It does a great job. It has a thermostatic control, and separate switches for two different sized coils. We just use the small coil which is, I think, about 550 watts. She likes it because there is small risk of fire using it.

I set my coffee table on fire with a quartz heater years ago.:ashamed: As they advertise...they heat the objects in the room, not the air. Confirmed!:2cents:

There is a lot to be said about burning down your house with space heaters and or wood burners, in the name of saving a few bucks.

I want to heat a bunkroom within my barn. What would be the safest heater. The room is insulated but can get down to -5C ?
Or is a there a safe way?

I have heated my 12 x 24 tackroom in my barn for about 10 years with 2 simple baseboard heaters. You HAVE to be sure that nothing hangs in front of the heater though .....fire hazard. I have no kids so not worried about this.

they also make small electric heaters that can mount on the wall high up in the corner with an onboard thermostat that would be safer if you have worries about someone blocking a baseboard heater.

I have one of the Pelonis Disk furnaces (which i paid about $90 for in 1989, and its probably not any better than the ceramic heater they also make) and it (and the ceramic model) are suppose to be fire safe, even with stuff right on the grill..

I think the quarts infared heaters that are so expensive are supposed to be safer in the way that they are enclosed. You can sit them close to stuff w/o the danger that other ceramic and quarts heaters pose.

No Scientific facts here just hear-say:thumbsup:

A neighbor and I were talking about this just the other day, his wife is giving him a really hard time about wanting one..

I did the math on what a 1500 watt heater costs me to run: my average electric bill is about $120/mth or $4/day for heat/hot water/cooking/lights/well pump Our cost is about $0.09 kw/hr

To run a 1500 watt heater it would cost me $0.135/hour or $1.08/ eight hr day.. So that would be a 25% increase in my electric bill just doesnt seem economical in my situation - grap a blanket, put on slippers or just heat the entire house a few more degrees - that is more bang for your buck..

For anyone that has one of the heaters - how much did you electric bill go up? Have you seen any true (calculated) cost savings. I know a couple ppl that bought them and will tell you how much heat it puts out.. BUT then they will tell you that their electric bill doubled

Hello, Im asking if anybody has purchased one or more of these portable heaters- such as edenpure or duraflame or any other brand out there? Im going to buy, but I'd like to get some more feedback from those who already have. Thanks alot!
I have one. Hate to admit that I got sucked in. What a piece of crap! Not nearly as good as a $20 Walmart heater. Don't waste your money.
