At a risk of taking a lot of flak from some members on here, I always do and have been adding to my fuel for a long time. Again, at a risk of taking flak, I use Sthil two stroke oil. Why the Stihl two stroke oil, well I think the oil is made to add to fuel to lubricate, and as I use it for my saws and buy it by the gallon at a good price, so there always some in the shed. Occasionally I put some in the fuel of my car, a 4 year old Mercedes, and I also add a small amount to the petrol [Gas] of my mower. My thinking is that the fuels today have had a lot of the additives removed for pollution reasons, and are too `dry`. I never seem to have any problems with my engines even though I been doing it for years. Our cars have to be tested every year, and mine always come back and is always well within the limits. It might just be me, but I think you can hear when the oil gets to the engine as it seems to run sweeter. I did have an old diesel fishing boat, and that old engine was as good when I sold it as it was when I bought it after many hours of hard work.

I've cured several "sick" diesels with a quart of ATF in the fuel tank.
I wouldn't think you should need anything for a newer engine in good shape.
Winter additives are needed,of course.
Good Luck!

When our 240D Benz was stored for 4 years, the diesel turned brown. Used some Chevron diesel additive that was highly recommended at that time.

Have heard about the ATF thing, too. ATF is just diesel that got diverted to ATF pool for lube oil processing but has some additives that are apparently helpful.

I'd read the label on the SeaFoam. Might be good. Have used it for years to solve carb problems and works great. Have read herein where some have used in diesel.

I talked to a coworker with a ram truck with a Cummins and he uses power service brand injectors cleaner twice a year as this is what Cummins recommends

I am just not a fan of additives, and I would especially stay away from ATF. ATF has a ton of additives and detergents. MAYBE on an old indirect injection engine it might help a stuck injector. On a newer high pressure common rail no way. Unless your engine is running bad, why add anything? I do add an additive to help with gelling.

I use Power Service silver in the summer, and PS white for winter.
They list both as having lubricating qualities, but only the silver lists injector cleaner.

...and I'm not a fan of Dodge diesel trucks, so what? ATF (Dexron-Mercon) works fine as a diesel additive and cleans injector pintles, been using it for decades.

The problem is people post they have been using some additive for years, and there Tractor, truck, car, whatever runs great with it. The question is would the results be the same if they haven’t been using the additive. I have actually done research on this subject in the past and haven’t come to my opinion lightly. That said it is an opinion, and I drive a Ford truck, not a Dodge.
