injector oil question

BTW, what oil do you suggest....you never did say.

See post from yesterday at 4:05 PM "But I digress... do whatever you will do."
And I would definitely question someone's knowledge about lubricants that wants to put hydraulic oil in a fuel injection pump and governor. No flame intended.
:)

QUESTION my knowledge when ever you want (you most likely know more than me about diesels) but I never claimed it to be knowledge. It was clearly stated as my opinion.

I am sure your a great bloke in person.

Hello all. I deal with the govs bob speaks every day My rr got tired of low oil button on the gov kicking so they piped engine oil through and this oil never gets changed . They test it on the 90 day Qs but that is all and these loco have been running close to 50 yrs When a part fails they replace it . They have the same attitude about workers. I have a great deal of respect for bob r and I could not change a p.a. on one of these engines but come on we are talking about a over grown garden tractor here.I quit postin on this site because of the a know it all that has an opinion on all repairs. I used "compressor oil" when I first got my tractor 5-1/2 years ago.
Now, I use the same as the engine oil in the injector pump. I use 15w/40 diesel oil like Mobil. Sometimes diesel displaces the injector pump oil, especially on the Kama ... not so much the Jinma though. So I do check it and change it frequently, since it's a simple change and only takes ounces of oil.

BTW, Bob Rooks is very respected on the Chinese forums.
He has always posted good information which has been very helpful to many, many Chinese tractor owners, including myself. Just about everyone (like I just did) posts what has been his experience and how they do things. None of them are necessarily "the golden rule", but more so guide lines. And conversely, none of them (generally) are so "bad" to do that it will ruin your tractor. You just have to read and decide which method is best for you. Using the forum with that in mind leads to harmonious discussions and eventually to obtaining useful information.

They use air compresor oil in the govener on the EMD engines on the rail road I worked on for the last 40 years. The govener on on EMDs is operated by hydraluics and has its own pump and oil supply. The rail road calls it air compressure oil and the barall it comes in says it is hydraluic oil. The 50 weight oil pumped to the govener is to check for low engine oil pressure and operate the load regulator. air compressure and hydraluic oil are low foaming oil...Larry

True compressor oils are formulated for use in natural gas compressors that usually have contact with carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide and will have a viscosity index of ~95, plus an exclusive additive package. I'll bet that's not what you guys are buying. I'll also speculate that if you look closely in the fine print on the Campbell-Hausefield compressor oil you'll see that it is just ISO 150 - same as the "special" Cat pressure washer oil. Marketing must be a fun job, for sure.

I thought the rail engines had pneumatic over hydraulic actuators since they are not constant speed. I understand that some of the newer locomotives that have the EMD "H" four cycle engines are using cycloconverter drives. Are those constant speed? last time I looked, the rail engines were still running the Chlorine Free Oil (CFO), but why are they running 50w? What model governors do you have?

They do oil analysis every 90 days?? We do it monthly! The EMD two cycle engines are chronic oil users (not burners), it's the nature of the beast, but they're getting better all the time. It's typical (for me) to make up 175 gallons in a seven day period. A bad month will see 600 gallons used (worn out packs). Our 710's have a 360 gallon sump plus 50 gallons for the filter, you do the math.

Not all tractors needs any injector oil maintenance.

As far as I can see, the injector pump on our Foton FT404 tractor seems to be lubricated with the oil pressure coming through a tube from the main engine.

There's no visible oil dip stick, no oil fill cover, no level nor drain plugs on this injector pump.

Are you sure those are oil lines? Looks like fuel lines to me but I would need to see a wider view picture to be sure.
