instrument panel fogging

Since we financed our JD tractor we were required to provide insurance for the duration of the term. Our JD dealer provided insurance and it is listed on their (JD) credit agreement. The cost was $172 for the life of the loan and covers damage and theft.

Your dealer lied to you Don. JD sells the cheapest insurance I can find. Full coverage for 4610 MFWD and 460 loader was $272 for 5 years. That translates to right at $55 a year for $500 deductable.

Folks,

I would check with your homeowners policy to see if they don't already cover the tractor. My insurance company covers physical damge and liability as long as the tractor remains on my property.

My dealer admitted that the JD insurance is kind of sham as it protects Deere Credit not you! The JD insurance only covers the amount that remains financed so if you only have $300 dollars left to pay off on the loan, that is all you are covered for and when the loan is paid off you are no longer covered under the JD insurance.

The JD insurance is meant to protect Deere for the outstanding amount of the loan in case something happens to the tractor. Do not assume it is there for your benefit in the event something goes wrong.

If you want to insure your tractor (if you finance you must either provide evidence of insurance or buy the JD policy) then check with your homeowners or business policy, if they don't cover it by default, it should be too much extra to get them to cover it. Don't rely on JD insurance to protect you.

Here's a copy of the policy, sleepy. You read it and tell if your dealer is right.

Here's the clause that says how much they will pay. The first attachment is hard to read.

I have a JD4700 that has the instrum panel fogging problem when the tractor has been running hot. The dealer said the problem could be cured by a new panel lens/glass. He sold me the kit of glass+seal for around $25; I haven't installed yet.
Your reference to a JD factory bulletin LV 44806 didn't state explicitly that JD is covering the expense of the parts and labor -- should I expect these costs be picked up by JD?
Thanks...jim

Factory standard warranty should apply, if you're out of warranty, you pay

get with your local dealer (preferbly the dealer you bought tractor from) they should take care of this problem. This has been a very isolated problem....good luck with your fix and enjoy your tractor...
