Interesting idea to explore. How does it work? I can imagine the heat is slowed by the R-insulation and if missed, absorbed by U-Thermal mass. And on an on.

Your suggestion is correct. I think log cabins actually do this. The wood acts as both the thermal mass and the insulation. How this would be done otherwise is unknown by me. There is a concrete that has newspaper pulp built in it. This may have the same affect.
