True. I’m sure these are primarily used by large corporate farms. It does optimize fertilizer, seed, and pesticide sprays, which reduces costs.

Not true. Virtually every row-crop farmer uses it.

Any farm where family members work together is technically a family farm, regardless of size. Over 90% of US farms are "family farms

Whether seeding, spraying, or fertilizing eliminating overlap saves money. A GPS controlled machine can cut overlap on the ends down to virtually zero where a manually controlled machine will have to overlap by a foot at the very least to eliminate misses. A foot on 1 hundred passes is 100 feet. That adds up pretty fast and those electronics can pay of in a hurry on a big farm. Also if there are any greenies here think of the environmental benefits of using less fuel and less product. I do agree our reliance on technology is a cause for concern, it makes us vulnerable.

Interesting article and might explain why the seed farm down the road, their new large JD tractor with it's huge planter went out of the field and planted the road last spring and I thought it was because the farmer was loaded in the cab.

What scares me more than anything is.. If it fails other than the mechanical aspect, I cannot fix it. All 'greek' to me.
