Interesting conversation on girls with my 16 year old boy

When ever I talk to friends about the problems we all have with kids they say.....it's different with a girl. Since I have no experience, i have to believe them. I truly can not relate.

Close friend had a big rep firm in the defense industry, made lots of $. He also owned a small distributorship and stocked some of the products they sold, pretty much as a service for his customers. He would stock product for his customers and ship it to them as needed. Basically an accounting dodge but common practice.

He set up the disty business in his wife's name because, as (removed) said, wimmen are minorities? They get special consideration when bidding on govt contracts.

The joke was, she was already female and Jewish, if we could somehow determine she was an afro american Indian with a handicap, they could corner the business.

Yep. Girls is different. I have 4 sisters and two daughters. We have friends and family with boys. They just kinda sit there and watch em do crazy stuff all day, whereas the girls set up a whole scenario with their toys. Relationships, alliances, storylines... the boys just crash their trucks and have their dolls, ah, er, I mean action figures beat each other up. It's a whole different world.

I have a much younger cousin. He was the only boy on his block. Probably 10 little girls his age, but no boys. He asked his parents for a purse, because all of his friends had purses. So they got him one. He kept a gun and some hot wheels in it.

I had a paper route when I was 12 delivering papers in the evenings after school 6 days a week and in the early mornings on Sunday. I would get up on Sunday at 2 and finish my route at 5 and go back to sleep until 8 then get up to go to school so my parents were used to me being out at night time. When I hit 15 I got the morning route where I had to get up at 1:30 and finish about 5:30 but since my parents did not get up till 8 I found time to be mischievous.

I started sneaking my father's 1946 Packard out at 5:30 and going practicing my driving at the deserted Army base a couple miles away and coming home at 6:30. I did this for a couple of months until one morning my mother told me that she was having problems sleeping about 5:30 each morning and couldn't get back to sleep until about 6:30. I read between the lines and realized what she was telling me and never took the Packard out again.

Mama's love kept me on the right track most of the time.

That’s a great story.

Mom’s are very smart. I’m sure she cut you a break given how hard you were working as a kid.

Yep. Girls is different.

Yep. I have a 3 year old niece and 4 year old nephew.

The girl cares about her hair, her bows and her clothes. She wants to play house, tea parties and play with stuffed animals.

The boy cares zero about hair or clothes - he only wants to play sports. Run around. Jump and climb.

We go to the zoo and the girl talks about the adorable animals and mommy and daddy animals. The boy wants to see the killer lions, tigers and bears.

Different for sure.

My experience, while not unique, has been fun. I was raised in a family of boys, and one sister. She was born when I was a Senior in high school, so she was not much of an influence on me.

Sharn Jean and I raised two girls; both of which were Daddy's girls, and it was a treat for me. I got my hair curled, my toenails painted, and was the hero because I could fix anything. It became evident to me that girls really were different. Both my brothers raised two girls also.

As Grandparents, we have five Grandsons and one Granddaughter. We baby sat our twin grandsons from early on, and took them to school and picked them up, so it was a new experience for both of us, but mostly for my wife. She couldn't get used to "boys will be boys" and the urinating contest on the deck was an eye opener for her. I loved when they were little, and it was quite an experience for me too; I hope I have had a positive influence on them.

Last fall my son in the 6th grade had his first 'girlfriend.' Don't exactly know what all it meant because they aren't dating or hanging out other than school and in some of their online games and text messages. Well the week before deer season this kid named Jack stole her, Jack was new to the school and is a real 'Jack' from what I understand from my son and his friends.
Anyway it was right before deer season, he was pretty heartbroke. I told him lets go shoot a deer and you'll forget about her. Hes goes back to school a week and a half later with the story of shooting two deer that came in one right after the other, how we butchered em up and had the inner loins or deer heart for about 4 days.

I hope I have had a positive influence on them.

I hope to teach my grandkids to be a mischievous as "Oupa". Some are going to be more of a challenge than others.
