Interesting oil brand comparison

Why do people keep saying that "Amsoil can be hard to find."
For 10 years I place an order on line save 25% from retail
and have it delivered to my front door in two days.

What is hard about that?

So again why do people say it's exspensive and say Rotella is such a bargain?

I guess facts don't matter.

Where are you getting that walmart price from? Im sure if you look hard enough i can find rotella t6 for $50 a gallon making amsoil much more of a "deal".

Rotella t6 is $19 a gallon at homedepot. And thats a fact.

I've been saying that for years. Good, clean oil of any brand is better than old, dirty oil of the best brand. (if you can even say what the best brand is)

That's the impression I got from that article, that there really wasn't much of a difference between oils. I agree with you here...keep it changed regularly and you'll be fine.

Rotella t6 is $19 a gallon at homedepot. And thats a fact.

I also use Rotella T6 and have never paid more than $19 per gallon. They even had a $5 rebate on per gallon many times.

You must buy your Amsoil products in large bulk to get free shipping and get 2 day shipping. I have ordered products from them for many years and have never once rec'd free shipping or 2-day delivery. I do have a commercial acct with them, but I don't buy in Bulk.

Rotella is 'cheap' at the Walmart compared to M1, Amsoil, etc.... here in CO.

I agree with you Oaktree....

However, please indulge me a bit, as it should be understood and should go without saying so, but I will --- Let me add two points:
(1) You also need to keep the proper oil level. Don't think that running it two quarts low is OK, 'cause it isn't OK.
(2) Change the filter routinely when changing the oil.

I am always amazed when I hear some guys say that points #1 and #2 are NOT important.

My opinion: specialty oils are intended for specialty engines.....such as a race engine that is run on the ragged edge of exploding.

Facts don't matter when you don't read right.
That $55.69 is for 3 gallons, which works out to $4.64/quart. I don't know about wallmart, but I can get that price with free shipping from Amazon, and even better with their "subscribe & save".

I have been running Amsoil products for several years but will be buying my oil from Walmart, or maybe Amazon for the foreseeable future. I had been doing my oil changes once a year, which is something Amsoil advertises. I will be retiring in about a year so will have a little more time available. My two kids are getting older so I hope they will be taking care of that. The attached article confirms what I have been reading for several years, any quality oil will work fine. I will be using the oil life monitoring on my vehicles to decide on my oil changes.

Amsoil can be hard to find on the shelf in my area, which if you do them on the spur of the moment means something. I have never gotten free shipping on Amsoil either. It is good stuff but is it worth the money?

One thing that I'm going to mention is that the charts in the article are somewhat meaningless until you test a sample of clean oil. Years ago I did oil samples and the oil always came back high in copper. I sent in a clean sample of oil and it turns out copper was an additive. To get meaningful copper levels the additive needed to be subtracted from the used oil samples.

Still an interesting article though.

One sample came back high in silica's. The recommendation was to check the air cleaner and sure enough it was loose.
