Interesting Rocks

A friend of mine gave me this rock last weekend, yep, after I asked him to have it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

He works in the slate quarries and said it came from about 90 ft down. I dont think the pic does it justice, there is one pocket that has beautiful clear crystals, just gorgeous.

Had to register to respond on this one. Looks like quartz, and a really nice sample at that. Take a nail/knife/piece of steel. and try and scratch it. If it scratches it's probably calcite. If not, almost 100% likely its quartz. I'm pretty familiar with, and have done a fair bit of geology work in your area and quartz veins are common.
