P.S. I think you'll be happy with whatever brand you choose; they're all good. I don't think it's possible to buy a "bad" logging winch.

The biggest thing between brands is, the options on the winch that come standard, or are even available like a safety screen, trailer hitch, a chainsaw loop, tool box ect...

Personally, I like Farmi and Wallenstein the best, by far...

I bought a EGV-35 for the Kubota B26 and I just love this thing. Combined with a self-release snatch block, makes doing selective cutting way more efficient.

What I like about the Tajfun EGV 45 that I bought over the other brands was: over 200' of line, 3 sliders, 3 choker chains, 2 covered toolboxes, chainsaw holder, pto shaft holder when not in use, larger drum that's easier on heavier wire rope, brake bands instead of a ratchet pawl.

It's human nature to think the brand they bought is the best, but like I said earlier; I don't think it's possible to buy a "bad" winch.

That sounds like a nice winch, but some things to me just aren't an advantage.

For instance, I'd take "Wallenstein's style", of ratchet paul brake over bands ANY day...

The ratchet is much more positive, as in super strong, and NEVER needs adjustment or wears out.

But of course, some things are more important to one person than to another...

The automatic band brake is an security when winching in very step terrain, it's mandatory in Germany I think and maybe several other countries.

Does Igland/Norse sell the 3200 and 4200 series with this type brake in the US?

I've had the Fransgard V-3004 for ten years now, at ten cord/year still works good. It's better and stronger than the Wallenstein winch because I dont/never and or have to re-hook to the lower notches on the winch like the people do with the Wallenstein brand, I always pull logs/firewood from the main cable......

Can you explain this statement with some facts? I've been thinking of buying the Wallenstein FX110 and see folks hauling with the main cable. Also the Wallenstein's seem to offer more features than any other brands locally available to me.

Huh? You're messing with us aren't you?

He obviously doesn't know much about the Wallenstein winches... lol

They are made to pull from the cable,

Yup, like someone here was saying, probably no such thing as a bad winch, I just wanted to see if I could catch Sayer Rob napping.

Can you explain this statement with some facts? I've been thinking of buying the Ausie tow truck operators<<<<<<<<<<<Haven't heard of that show, I've been watching Longmire on Netflix, set in Northern Wyoming near the Cheyenne Reservation, the sheriff is constantly butting hear with the Cheyenne cop on the Rez, lot of twist and turn and see folks hauling with the main cable. Also the Wallenstein's seem to offer more features than any other brands locally available to me.

Wallenstein is a good choice, I was just messing with Sawer Rob, I had a feeling he'd come back with a nice picture.....didn't think it would be that quick thow.

Right on. I thought that might be the case. :)

The disadvantage to the old-style ratchet-pawl brake is that to disengage it, I have to get off the tractor, engage the winch to take pressure off the pawl, then flip it over to disengage it.
Band-style brakes are disengaged with a rope just like the winch. So, say I've got a full twitch on, going uphill, and I lose traction. All I've got to do is pull the brake rope; the load drops, I go to the top of the hill, and then winch the load back up to me. Huge time saver.
It's totally positive in that it automatically engages, never needed adjustment, and is super strong.

I don't have to get off the tractor to release mine, in fact I don't need to pull the brake rope either!

All I have to do is bump the line in cable and the brake releases, and I can do that right from my tractor seat...

Sounds like Wallenstein has a better way of doing things... lol

Hey, I've noticed you have been making some rather "hinkey" post lately. I figured your senility was finally showing up in your post, so I jumped right in.

I wouldn't want folks believing the rants of an senile old man, could be true...

My farmi is like that too. Just give the clutch rope a quick yank and the brake disengages.

To each, his own. I've owned a Fransgard and used a Farmi. Both great winches, as I assume the Wallenstein is also. My current Tajfun is what I prefer of those I've owned and used.
