Is a 3320/3520 to big for my needs?

/ Is a 3320/3520 to big for my needs? #22
I had a 2520 for 5 months with 46 backhoe, I did a LOT of work with it but it broke and JD took a long time to fix it. So I needed something (after waiting 1.5 months for them to fix 2520) so I got the 3320 and I'm glad........

What broke with the 2520, I have the exact same set-up. So far it has not let me down.

How much do round bales weigh on average? I own the predecessor to the 2032 and at less than 2,000 lb. it seems like the 2000 series would be a little undersized for the kind of regular work you'll be doing. I think you'd like the 3320 for the size of your lot and the scale of work you're planning for.

Nice property you have there. What equipment was used to create that trench through the trees?

Is that with a cab?? Reason I ask I quoted a new 3520 hd bucket 300cx loader, tires filled for less than that price

Nope that's just an open station. Canadian prices:thumbdown:

I own a 3320 and absolutely love it. I would think about what you're going to use the tractor for the MOST and buy according to that. If you got one year of moving logs and 10 years of mowing grass, I would base my purchase on the tractor that cuts grass the best. The logs will take you a little longer to move but you'll have the right machine the majority of time.

That's what I have been thinking about here as well. It will be running a grapple a lot all through it's life, being that our acreage is all treed, Ill be slowly clearing more and expanding an area for a shop in the future. I also won't have much lawn the way I'm thinking now. So the mowing ill be doing is more rough cut bush hog stuff. Not much finish mowing.

I've got 20 acres and at times a 4000 series tractor would have been nice but it's not necessary. Some things just take a little longer with a smaller machine. You would be surprised too on how much a small machine can do.

It came down to a 2000 and 3000 series for me. I went to a dealer and drove one after another. I knew within minutes of driving both that the 3320 was right for me.

Get a Deere you won't regret it!

Yeah I for sure wont be going any larger than 3000 series. A few guys have said go bigger, but I can't see that being at all reasonable. Lol that's just to big for anything after a year down the road. I wanna see if the dealer will let me spend some time on the 3520 he's got there. :)

As long as you have Turf tires the 3x20's make reasonably good mowers - unless you want a putting green lawn. I have a riding tractor for under trees - where a cab does not fit. Maybe a bit of soil compaction, but nothing I can't live with.

Ill for sure be going with the r4 tires for all the dirt work and brushing I wanna do with it, I was thinking if I do end up with a finish mower it will be a rear mount, exactly for the reason of trees. That way I can back under anything a lot nicer than trying to get up close with the tractor. What do you guy think of a cab in this kind if environment? I wanted a cab, but was thinking it might get in my way in the bush? Never mind the price tag....

Have 3520 with cab, 300CX loader, MX5 brush hog, 375 backhoe, pallet forks and 5' tiller. Got it 6 years ago for my 20 acres. Lots of snow removal and brush clearing, dug hole for new septic tank and trenches for drain field, dug out a couple stumps, tilling garden. This tractor has been great; bigger would on a rare occasion be nicer but I never wish to have smaller. Seriously considering 5' or 6' mid mower; tired of mowing 1 acre lawn with 38" rider.

Sounds like a lot of dirt work! I would love a backhoe for the same jobs, but I think I can hire or rent a hoe for that job and be ahead. I keep hearing don't go smaller, that's what I was hoping to hear!

I don't know Deere, but I know woodlots and lawns.

What are you going to do with your 10 acres?

Landscape -Dirt work
round off/ level out a rough cut drainage ditch all the way around the 10 acres - lot's of dirt work
clear brush and trees - lot's of brush/limb/log lifting - grapple?
Snow removal - how far? Snow blower? Front mount? Cab?
Till the garden - how big?
Bush hog - how big? 5HP/foot
ROUND BALES - A bale can weigh from about 500lb to about 1700lbs BIG DIFFERENCE http://www.caes.uga.edu/commodities/fieldcrops/forages/Ga_Cat_Arc/2012/SF1209.pdf

A 10' 24" hardwood log weighs about 1500lbs.

So size your equipment accordingly. In the Kubota realm I'd advise an MX4700 size (48HP) would be the biggest you'd need so you can lift what you want. A B3050 (33Hp) would do. Much smaller than that will probably be to small.

/edit - almost forgot the lawn - get a zero turn.

Good break down, the snow removal is maybe gonna be 300 yards or so. Put the two driveway pictures together and you have the driveway pretty well. Plus what ever it's going to be going up the house. So not much. Growing up we cleared as much with my dads 455 with either a snow blower or a blade on the front. So I don't need this big of a tractor for the snow removal part really. Would be nice but a smaller one would be fine.
The garden is a decent size but still smaller than what my dads little 455 always did. Again wouldn't need a 3000 series for that.
The bush hog I'm thinking probably 60". Ill be backin it In between trees all over the 10 acres clearing out the small willows and junk. So anything bigger might get in the way. Ill also use it to keep the drainage ditch clear once I have it leveled off and what not.
Round bales. This is my biggest weight on the "go bigger side" of the teeter totter. I'm not sure what the average bale weighs here. My brother in law feeds his cows with his 3720, it does it just fine but needs a lot of counter weight. The kubota I'm told will move a round bale, but not really lift it, just take the weight off and slide it around. That or 3pt hitch bale spear would work. But then I can't stack them or drop them into a feeder. But it would work if I were to decide against the jd.
For the logs, ill be moving so larger trees but not many. Nothing the kubota wouldn't handle really.
The mx is their largest chassis right? more compareble to the 5000 jds? i was looking at an L3200 before, but i think thats to big. Now I was looking at the b3350 kubota, I'm not totally up to speed on all their different models, but it looks like a nice tractor. Has all the creature comforts that the 3320 has. It's just a bit smaller with a weaker loader.
True enough, that's a good idea, I won't have that much lawn and a small zero turn is cheap enough.

Im not totally sure, but i know the 3320 is nothing to big to be moving round bales, 2032 is for sure not enough tractor. But Thanks, good to hear from someone with a 2000 series. I sat on the 2032 and agree that just felt to small. I can't see it being enough. Thanks! we love it! its been a lot of work already but it's shaping up :) I used a 270 komastsu for the ditch.

Believe me, when you get onto your land with your tractor, no 4XXX machine will feel too big. Not on 20 acres. My 4500 looked big sitting in my garage, but out in the open, whether in a field, or in the woods, it never looked or felt too big. It did feel like a real machine, because it was, and could do real work. HP is one thing, but you also need a large enough frame and the weight to handle some of the heavier stuff if you want durability. I never felt that I was in too tight an area to move it either. It would turn incredibly short for its size, even without the turn brakes. It's your money, buy what you want, but just don't believe that the 4XXX will be too big. The difference in dimensions between a 4XXX and a 3XXX out in the woods or a field is very minor as far as where one can go, so can the other.

Yea, the 3320 is an awesome machine and does my chores nicely. It is on occasion that I wished I had the 4000 series. If money is not an object get the 4. However the 3 is well suited for 99% of what you throw at it. Bigger is sometimes better except when its too expensive.

Nope not to big they seem to shrink the more times you get on them. I am at the very far end of the spectrum with 10 acres and 85 Hp border line to big. Loader capacity was the single biggest factor for me. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this size tractor for your needs but a 3320 would be definitely be a smart purchase over the smaller 2320. Get the CX loader you will find heavy things to pick up. You can never have to much lift Capacity
