Is a CD player on a 3320 crazy?

I'd like to play CD's and have hearing protection at the same time. What's the best way to do it out there. I'm sure I'm not breaking any new ground on this one but I'm not sure if a marine radio can be installed on a 3320. I'd prefer wireless headphones too so I can jump on and off without a cord plugged in anywhere. Anyone done this before?

I agree with Gator. My concern with a CD player is dust and the tractor bouncing around. After a short amount of time, either the dust will kill it, or the skiping of the music will get very annoying.

I have a Gundig AM/FM radio that I bungee cord to what I'm driving with a good set of headphones. The few times I have to leave the seat, I just take them off. It's easy, simple and cheap.

My thought is any electronics that I put on the tractor need to be removable for weather, and disposable because of abuse. There are all sorts of inexpensive Ipods, or Ipod clones out there that will hold hundres of songs. A few bucks more and you can have thousands of songs!!

I know your question is more directed to the source of sound, but I noticed that you are interested in hearing protection also. I have a pair of hearing protectors with built in head phones. They are made by David Clark, the company that makes the head sets for small air craft use. The only difference is that they don't have a microphone. It has the same connector that headphones have, so you can plug it into a radio, cd player, or mp3 player, and it even has a volumn knob on the left ear piece that can easily be adjusted, even with gloves on. I like this set up because you don't have to turn the volume up on the radio to overcome the engine noise like you do with normal headphones.

I just use my regular ear-protection and put the little ear buds in them.
My mp3 player is also a radio and holds about 10hrs of music. Cheap too$47.00 The battery last about 12hrs

I have a fender radio on a few of my tractors. i guess you could use a CD if it had great anti skip ability.

Probably better is an MP3 player.

I was just looking at that Tractor Tunes setup. Only problem I see with that, is I have the rops down a lot. Plus I could see myself getting whacked in the head a lot when getting in and out when using the BH.

I just use an mp3 player (sansa) with my headphones. These are great because they really isolate the outside noise so I don't really need any additional protection. Ultimate Ears

A trunk mount multi-disc CD player would probably be best. You could then make a dust tight box for it and spring mount the player. 8 tension springs. 4 on top and 4 on the bottom hooked from the corners of the player to the corners of the box. Maybe an old army ammo box with welded loops ?


So, no - it's not crazy to want a CD player. If you wanted a DVD player with a pop-up screen that comes out of the hood of the tractor, now that would be crazy!

I have the peltor ear muffs with am/fm radio. Only thing is my favorite station doesn't come in, so I am forced to switch it up. I am amazed on how less fatigued I am at the end of the day by using ear protecion. Also amazed on how much my singing has come along. Watch for me on the next American Idol. You wont be able to miss me, I'll be the one on stage with "The big green sexy".

Just installed my second tape deck/FM radio on my JD4300. This one has 4 speakers and is digital so I can just hit the seek button instead of twisting the dial. Since I am in the bush a lot I had to go with an antenna that hangs from the plywood roof of the cab. With the four speakers each about 18" from my head I don't need to have them too loud and can still hear when on the hoe.
The first radio, a cheapie, lasted 3yrs before the tape mech died. I am in a poor reception area so have to switch to tapes when in the valleys. The radio is not tied to the ignition but has a toggle switch by the left loader bracket so I can switch off/on from the ground or when dismounting.
I personally wouldn't be without the radio feature so I can hear the local news and weather. The music definitely makes the jobs go faster.....
