Is coleman camping fuel just plain gas?

A couple of buddies were on a camping trip via boat. The boat motor ran out of gas. Poured the coleman fuel in. She made it about a miles and then things got a little loud. They only had to oar about 2 miles.

Ironically, I've found that once I'm prepaired for a 'disaster'... the disaster goes on to look for other lesser prepaired 'targets'. for instance.. after puying a pto generator.. I've never lost power for more than a few hours...

And I'm hoping that this continues to happen with us as well. I bought the generator that mounts on the DR Mower engine. Was using it to build the shed barn and it works. Hopefully we never have an outage that will last long enough for me to have to power the house with the generator.

Safety Tip,

Liquid fuel stoves can flare up, spit fuel and have a pressurized tank of flammable liquid; these are not what you want inside your house or tent.

The classical disaster happens when reflected heat from a large pot or pan bottom overheats the fuel tank on a single burner stove where the fuel tank is located under or next to the burner. As the tank gets hotter than it was designed for the pressure increases to where the stove begins to roar like a jet engine until the pressure relief pops turning it into a flame thrower.

I would not put this in an engine.
A good friend of mine put a few gallons of this in his car when he ran out of gas. He never made it to the next gas station. I don't know what it did to the motor, but it never ran again.

A 2 cycle engine?? they needed to add a little oil too!

Ill counter that. I bought a 4kW generator about a month before we had a storm that caused a 1 week power outage. We saved a fully stocked freezer in addition to being the envy of the neighborhood.

I ran out of gas in 1970 while driving my Ford Galixie 500 on a camping trip and ran out of gas. I poured a gallon of colman fuel into the tank, splashed a little in the carburator and drove to the gas station 10 miles. Car ran fine.

That's cuz it was a real car.. not one of these plastic computerized .. sensor'ed things passing for auto's these days..

Kind of a followup question to the Coleman Fuel question.....I have about 10 gallons of K1 keorsene that is 3 years old. Global warming?? and no extended power outages so no need to fire up the heater. Is the K1 any good for heating?? I am afraid it might muck up the wick.. Would adding the K1 to my 400 gal Diesel tank an option? Any thoughts??

10 gallons of kerosene mixed in 400 gallons of diesel would be no problem, you would be making a weak winter blend. It might still be good. I have had kerosene setting around for a couple of years before and it still worked fine in my kerosene heaters.
