Is every Deere dealer inflexible on lawn & garden?

A few years ago I paid 12K+ for a John Deere XUV at my local JD dealership. Two years later I was in the market for an JD x758 garden tractor at the same dealership, same salesman. He wouldn't budge from the MSRP. So I went to the next nearest JD dealership about 45 miles away and got a great deal on a X758. ;)
When my local dealer found out, he was miffed at me for going elsewhere. Go figure! :confused3:

When the dealer experience for a Kubota L6060 tractor was poor, I switched colors and bought a Massey 1758 instead. That's certainly an option here, along with expanding the search to a more friendly Deere dealer.

One poster received 15% off, which is $900. Another quoted $700. But then I hear feedback about sticking at MSRP "to feed the family." Hmmm or is that feeding a gambling habit .....

Finally, I respect the dealer's authority to make their own decisions. If they want to be "my way" or the "highway," it's their dealership, and they are paying the bills and overhead. They are in it to make money, not make friends.

I certainly agree with that statement.

The dealerships know they want to sell for and I know what I want to pay. If we can not come to a mutual agreement on price, I move on. No harm, no foul. My gripe is when a dealership complains when a potential buyer then purchases the same tractor at a different dealership.

It's not that I am brand loyal. I purchase (when I can afford it) any quality brand that I think will suit my needs the best.

I agree^^^
About buying from a different dealer as you did that's just business. If the salesman wants to make the sales he has to compete, nothing personal.

Lots of people make too many assumptions, if you have a particular brand tractor they seem to think you are "loyal" to that brand. The words "loyal" and "racist" are both over used today along with "awesome".

You can add the word "hero" to that "over used" list also.

How much is the Husky?
How much is the Deere?

What pro's and con's do each offer?

Is the Husky at a big box store that has no parts and service?

With the Deere, you can check parts availability and price from home in your underwear. Even order parts from home in your underwear. Not that it matters with some people. But 5 or 8 years down the road, being able to get parts is important.

I still USE my dad's 15HP Briggs powered Sears (Roper) rider that he bought new in 1972.
It is NOW 45 years old!
He is gone!
Roper is gone!
Sears is nearly gone!
I am old!
My underwear is old!
Mower has cut several thousand acres over past 45 years.
Machine has never been.... "back to the dealer".

Good discussion.
All Deere models are not equal, nor are all Deere dealers equal.
And for certain all brands are not equal.
So it is really up to the customer to sort it all out, and hopefully be happy in the end.

Wow, 15 hp briggs was considered HUGE in 1972. I've always liked Briggs. Good thing it didn't have to run it's whole life on ethanol gas.

Hyoid have to watch for the promotions and GreenFleet has a little. I wouldn't buy anything but JD lawn and garden because I like them, but I switched to Kubotas for my larger equipment because DEERE is just too damned pricey for me these days
