We're in the process of adding on to our house. This past weekend we started putting down the second floor deck. Since I hate heights, and hate ladders, I decided to build a temporary staircase to get people, tools, and materials to the second floor. Turns our, our German Shepherd also likes the stairs. She has spent the last two nights sleeping on the roof as well. PTDC0107.jpgPTDC0113.jpgPTDC0116.jpg

You need to teach your shepherd to fetch you tools etc.... Save you a lot of steps :)

I use to have a labX that loved to climb step ladders. One time i was working on a wall with my 20' extension ladder, and up came the dog. Thing is he would not go down. only up. SO i had to carry him down. Luck had it he was a mix and only weighed about 45#.

Whenever i had roof work, he'd be up there with me. he even had his own custom set of tool bags.

That's funny! I wonder what the attraction is for the dog? Nice view, breeze, no bugs?

Oh sure! It's cute now. Just wait until he starts diggin' on the roof to bury a bone.:D

You know, with all of the dogs that we have had, we never had one that wanted to bury a bone - until we got Roxanne. We have a pile of sand that we've been using for bricklaying, and she's got about half a dozen bones buried in there.

One the plus side, we are planning on re-roofing the front side of the house when we finish the addition - maybe I can get her to help with the tear-off!

Wow, you would think it would be too hot up there for her to be comfortable.

It was about 80 degrees and I thought it would be hot too, but my wife and I both went over and sat with her in the shade and it was suprisingly cool. Not what I would have expected.

The nights have been getting cooler here (in the 60's) and I wonder if the roof is retaining a little heat and it feels good to sleep on....

I don't know, because I behave good enough to still get to sleep indoors.

That's funny. One of our cats likes to get on the roof, and he hollers at me wanting down. He acts like he can't get off the roof.

But as soon as I get up there on the roof, he races back down and is on the ground while I'm on the roof. It's funny.

He likes to tease me that way. I know he can get down all the time. I know he enjoys doing it. So I play along with him, by climbing up on the roof every once in awhile and watching him just run down and then look up at me.

My 14 month old son likes to climb everything, ladders included. Like to give me a heart attack.
