I couldn't care less. The R-n-R HoF has matured into a stale joke. Until it's operated by defined standards and a better definition of what's actually considered "rock," instead of the whims of the founder and his friends (who all hate prog and metal, by the way), I have no interest in it whatsoever.

And I'll be the first to admit, I have no idea what the attraction is for Radiohead. Saw them play live once, and they were terrible.

So I finally went to rock concert after nearly 30 years. I went to see The Struts (that I mentioned when I started this thread) in Asheville, NC at a small club called the Orange Peel. Holds about 1000 people. It was pretty much full.

I'm here to tell you there is still a little bit of life in rock and roll and this band gives me a little bit of hope. Very much in the Queen/glam rock mode. The music is what I would call glam/pop rock but some of the songs have a heavy edge to them and they are all guitar heavy. Their second album is coming out later this month and they played most of it. All as good or better than their first album which is very hard for most bands to do.

I'm also here to tell you that these guys put on a show. Two solid hours or more. Crowd in a frenzy most of the time. A lot of crowd participation stuff. Might sound cheesy but it works. Playing and vocals very tight. Band all smiles the whole time fully engaged with the crowd. (I despise glassy eyed, drunk musicians who are too stoned or too arrogant or too tired to engage with the audience). This is one of my top three favorite concerts and I was exhausted afterward.

The other thing that impressed me is that these guys play 5 nights a week all over the country and have been doing so for nearly 3 years. Can't imagine how they look so fresh and into it night after night but they are known for having a serious work ethic.

Do yourself a favor, if they come anywhere near you and you want to see a rock show done right, go see them. I drove 2 hours. Tickets were a remarkable $20.

I don't know where this band will go in a world where rock is dead and the pop stations play about the same 5 artists over and over all day long. They have opened for the Stones, Motley Crew and toured for a year with the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl said they were the best opening band they have ever had. They've been on some of the late night shows and did a set on America's Got Talent. I hope they go higher and give rock a much needed shot in the arm.

Just for giggles I searched to see how close they would be coming to me... the closest they will be is PA. Next year they will be touring in Europe so they must be pretty good.

I was a die hard Rush fan from their first album all the way up to their Signals album. I liked several songs on it but from that album onward I have not liked a single song of theirs. I'm not critical of them. They've had great success with the second half of their career and brought in lots of new young fans. I wish they had stayed with their more traditional sound (but even that changed album to album) but if they had they might have stagnated . Who knows. Still one of my favorite bands and still listen to them all the time.

I've mentioned the band The Struts in a few of these posts. Recently they played two of their songs on the runway at the Victoria Secret Fashion show. And whatever you might feel about that show (I think it is practically pornographic....and quite an eye full) but I think this might break them into the big time. The show airs sometime in December.

We'll see. I hope it pushes them into the big time....not just because I like them but because it is real rock and roll and could give rock a shot in the arm.

I've been a Rush fan since '75/'76, when I first heard Lakeside Park on a local radio station. I knew who they were, but that song turned my ear. When 2112 came out, I was completely sold. I, too, prefer the early stuff ... up to Moving Pictures for me. As a bass player (heavily influenced by Geddy Lee, I admit), those first eight studio albums are music gold. When I get to a point were I feel my playing isn't what it should be, I have what I call a "Rush Practice," where I start with side one of Hemispheres and play through the entire album, then the same with Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. It sort of re-grounds me. Sometimes I even just do that because I just want to play a bunch of Rush.

They kind of lost me a bit at the Signals album. Rush had a release formula; after every four studio albums, they'd release a live album, then go a slightly different direction for the next four albums, lather, rinse, repeat. The direction they went starting with Signals was very keyboard-centric, and it changed the character of their music a lot. Even Alex Lifeson was unhappy with that direction, and not shy about saying so. They eventually got away from it, and went back to the guitar/bass/drums foundation. That started around the Counterparts album.

I always remained a Rush fan, and still am today. However, the early period from '74 to '80 will always be my favorite stuff.

We must have been separated at birth. My first bass was a Rick 4001 copy because, well you get it. I will never forget the first time I heard YYZ.
Definitely with you on the pre-Signals catalog.

My first bass was a Lotus P-bass copy. Played that for a year until I found a 4001 jetglo in a pawn shop for $200 and my Lotus trade. That Ric was my main bass for the next 20 years, because ... yeah.

From '02, when I had much more color in my hair.
