Is Rock and Roll dead. Part 2.

I was a die hard Rush fan from their first album all the way up to their Signals album. I liked several songs on it but from that album onward I have not liked a single song of theirs. I'm not critical of them. They've had great success with the second half of their career and brought in lots of new young fans. I wish they had stayed with their more traditional sound (but even that changed album to album) but if they had they might have stagnated . Who knows. Still one of my favorite bands and still listen to them all the time..

I have all of them but favorites are the albums from Permanent Waves through Hold Your Fire. I can't decide my top Rush album, but it's either Power Windows or Moving Pictures.

And to get in on the bass action, my first bass was a 2/3 scale no-name brand, then a Squire, then an Epiphone. I was poor; what can I say? Have had some good basses in between then and now and have played a 6 string Tobias which I really liked, but didn't want to pay for, so I currently have 2 Ibanez basses. One a Soundgear 404 with passive pick-ups but active EQ (sounds really good) and my newest is a Soundgear 505 which also sounds really good. I tend to like Rock and have short fat fingers, so the Ibanez necks are the most playable to me move fast and freely on. I love a Fender Jazz, but just can't play it as well.

My first bass was a Lotus P-bass copy. Played that for a year until I found a 4001 jetglo in a pawn shop for $200 and my Lotus trade. That Ric was my main bass for the next 20 years, because ... yeah.

From '02, when I had much more color in my hair.

Matchbooks ... didn't know anyone still did that.

Neat find, David. There are literally hundreds of bands like that out there doing fun, cool stuff, and sadly, most people have never heard of them.

A couple years ago my wife and I were at the popcorn festival in Valparaiso, IN and I heard a band playing on one of the stages. I really liked the way they sounded. They were doing covers of classic rock tunes. We finally made our way around the corner and it was 5-6 middle-school aged kids! All guys with a female lead singer. They were killing it! Oldest one looked maybe 16. It was fun to watch.

Saw they are coming to St. Louis in a couple of weeks, playing at The Old Rock House just south of the downtown area. I played there once a few years ago. Neat place to see a band.

I cant tell ya's if R&R is almost dead . But from LIVE acts I saw back in the day which is not many compared to some of you folks . Santana (a heap of times) , Eric Clapton , The Who , Frank Marino & Mahogny Rush , Kansas , Golden Earring(many times) , Joe Walsh , Robin Trower , ‎Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and a bunch others which rite now I can't remember , what to this day stands out in whats left of my memory . Was Joe Walsh flat out kicked ***** and Eric Claptons blues work . Remember just saying from what I have seen live .

BTW I like to hear on occasion Neil Youngs version of :Neil Young - All Along the Watchtower - YouTube
(all along the watchtower)
Also if I may mention imo one of the most underated guitarist I ever saw and heard is Jose Feliciano , his R&R cover stuff was amazing , really good stuff .

Also if any of you's out there ever run into Mr Zig Zag or one of The Fabulous Fury Freak Bros send em my regards , please !!! LOL
