As usual, I show up late to the good threads. I like TBN, even if I get scolded or told to hush eventually. Hope I didn't slip through the cracks on you Soundguy.:)

Nope.. your messages DO display when i vew a page. You aren't among the illustrious few that have been added to my ignore list...

I also had inadvertantly quoted n80's post without giving it much thought. While the phrase in questions wasn't 'horrible'.. it was deffinately 'adultspeak'.. and generally not for general use.. etc. Had it not been for the unfortunate situration where a child viewed it.. it probably would ahve stayed off the rader and been ignored.

My message was also edited to remove the quoted remark. As was said.. the mods are very good around here at their job.

George,

I've been keeping up with this thread and thought I've read every word of it, but I don't have a clue what you said that would require censure. I'm sure it was something that I wouldn't think twice about, but others do, which is why it's a good thing to have moderators.

Apparently you did not read Eddie's post. The pond ATE his truck. Eddie had nothing to do with it. Innocent bystander. So it would have to go:

"Your pond ate your truck all wrong." :D

Hey.. don't knock it. That's a classic 'worst possible scenerio' that we always used when we were going over specs of something we designed. If it didn't meet the safety constraints of that.. it just wasn't good enough to put out... I still use that as an 'acid test' today...

You know, there are all kinds of examples of people like that. For instance, some teachers have it and some don't. About 10 years ago at my kids' day care the kids would be running wild and the day care director would walk into the room, one kid would notice, elbow the next and they'd all calm down and walk over to her and stand there looking at her. She didn't say a word. They were just drawn to her. I've seen it in a couple teachers and principles over the last few years. Amazing.

There are a couple supervisors at my job that get that respect, too. Just something about them that people want to follow.

Now me, on the other hand.... yikes! Kids tear me apart. :)

It ain't the mods... it's the TBN membership at large that keep the place going strong by hitting that yeild sign to let the mods know that something needs attention. ;) And most of what the members point out is helpful stuff like duplicate posts, posts that would be better served in different forums, bad links, etc.... very little editing of posts done by the mods, and then it is mostly minor stuff like a slip of the tongue, or fingers. ;)

Wow, that post was like a bad virus, it just kept spreading all over the place. I have to admit that I don't feel quite as 'rude, crude and socially unacceptable' since at least two other people quoted the phrase in question without feeling that they were spreading the crudeness. I'll repeat my apology to the mods as it seems like they had to move into 'containment' mode on that one.

(And for my own defense...or maybe my own conviction, I'd like to attempt to clarify this unfortunate phrase without taking us any further past the bounds of reasonably good taste. The phrase was used to describe a futile and meaningless argument between two individuals that is often compared to two canines repeatedly marking the same location. Clearly not table talk, as my mom used to say, but I agree with Soundguy, not really horrifying either. From now on, I'm going to pretend my dearly departed grandmother is sitting right next to me! That should keep me straight.)

As for people here being critical, it doesn't bother me. Criticism can be done well or poorly just like anything else but most of the time it seems to be helpful and constructive here. When I see pics of people operating a tractor with the ROPS folded down I notice it immediately and usually feel the urge to comment. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I think the best approach to safety issues like this is just to say 'I personally wouldn't do that.' Such a statement really only implies what I am comfortable with and does not have to be confrontational. Everyone has their own comfort level. A remember, this site is full of new users most of whom, like me, are pretty impressionable. So if someone comments about a ROPS or seatblet or whatever, it doesn't have to be a correction for the person who posted the pic, but can serve, instead, as 'proper' safety information for the new owners/users.
