I also had inadvertantly quoted n80's post without giving it much thought. Soundguy
Wow, that post was like a bad virus, it just kept spreading all over the place. I have to admit that I don't feel quite as 'rude, crude and socially unacceptable' since at least two other people quoted the phrase in question without feeling that they were spreading the crudeness. I'll repeat my apology to the mods as it seems like they had to move into 'containment' mode on that one.
(And for my own defense...or maybe my own conviction, I'd like to attempt to clarify this unfortunate phrase without taking us any further past the bounds of reasonably good taste. The phrase was used to describe a futile and meaningless argument between two individuals that is often compared to two canines repeatedly marking the same location. Clearly not table talk, as my mom used to say, but I agree with Soundguy, not really horrifying either. From now on, I'm going to pretend my dearly departed grandmother is sitting right next to me! That should keep me straight.)
As for people here being critical, it doesn't bother me. Criticism can be done well or poorly just like anything else but most of the time it seems to be helpful and constructive here. When I see pics of people operating a tractor with the ROPS folded down I notice it immediately and usually feel the urge to comment. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I think the best approach to safety issues like this is just to say 'I personally wouldn't do that.' Such a statement really only implies what
I am comfortable with and does not have to be confrontational. Everyone has their own comfort level. A remember, this site is full of new users most of whom, like me, are pretty impressionable. So if someone comments about a ROPS or seatblet or whatever, it doesn't have to be a correction for the person who posted the pic, but can serve, instead, as 'proper' safety information for the new owners/users.
