Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

Overall a crappy vehicle with weak front suspension. I had one years ago 'Maverick Grabber' and had to rebuild the front suspension at less than 30K miles as the front ball joints were shot as well as the 'A' arm bushings. Ford's 'better idea' was plastic insert joints and hard plastic bushings with no Alemite fittings. Car was a turd.
As were pretty much all non-specialty American autos of that era. :p

Don't go bringing up your Ford Pantera or one-year production of the Superbird... those were the exceptional "specialty" cars.

Was never interested in either but I did know someone that owned a 'Superbird'. I considered it a fugly vehicle with the bird roost spoiler on the back.

My favorite muscle car back then was a Chevelle SS 396 with a 4 speed actually and my second favorite was a Chevy Nova SS with a small block and a 4 speed. No Ford cars impressed me at all.

I did own a '63 Ford Falcon Sprint V8 (260) with a 4 speed. Real sleeper car. Only difference between the 289 and the 260 were the connecting rods.

What I find interesting today is, you have to purchase a hybrid or a plug in EV to get MPG that isn't dismal. My 14 Focus RS turbo gets 40 mpg if I drive it conservatively with a normal ICE motor. No hybrid junk or fire trap battery required and with over 300 ponies on tap, it will suck the paint off all of them other than maybe a Tesla Plaid.

Seems to be that the automotive industry is going backwards not forwards and the price of ownership has risen to insane levels.
Yep… the 2001 Corolla was always 40+ on the way home from Tahoe…

Same, unless you consider the "half credit" Ford affiliations:

1. Shelby Cobra 429 S/C
2. Shelby GT-40
3. De Tomasso Pantera

Everything Ford ever built on their own was a turd, at that time.

I had one of those many years ago. Not one of Ford’s proudest moments.
They would come through the used car lot and not my favorite… the 6 with 3 spd column shift was on the lot for almost a year… no A/C, no radio… orange with black interior and rubber floor mats.

It must have been the model advertised new out the door for 2k.

The grabber sold right away… 302 V8

I later heard the buyer totaled it.

The Mercury Comet was identical to the Maverick accept for a couple trim pieces. A 1974 Comet was my first car bought used in about 1980. I paid $800 and it was a piece of junk. It looked nice because it was freshly body worked and painted. About 1 year later, the Bondo was falling out and I sold it back to the used car dealer for $100. They repainted it and sold it again.

I think top speed was about 90 mph downhill with the wind after about 1 mile. A kid one year old than me had a Maverick, same year, same color. We "raced" them one day and he pulled ahead by a couple feet before a sparkplug worked its way out of the engine. Fun Times 😅

The accelerator cable broke just inside the firewall and I used a pair of pliers while my buddy steered to get it home about 10 miles. Being a dealer part, I drove it with a piece of twine and a stick for a week until the new cable arrived.

Nope. Although my sister's highschool BF had a Ford 302, with what I seem to remember being a Maverick body wrapped around it, and it was at least reasonably quick in a straight line.

I sort of "stole" that car from our own driveway for a joyride when I was 14. Mom caught up with me before I got too far, and I remember her not being very happy about it. :D

Makes perfect sense to me. The simpler drivetrain of an EV, but with the convenience of being easy to refuel. Surprised they put in such a large engine to power the generator.

A little (actually way) too much tech-y stuff in it for my liking though. Not sure I'd like a combo gas/brake pedal.
The Volts can power the wheels mechanically under certain conditions.
Not to mention that they have a long list of quality control issues, including detaching body panels.
CT owners have it better than Porsche Taycan owners. Porsche sent out memos to Taycan owners to bring their vehicles in to a service center every 60 days for a 3 hour battery inspection...

Guess the batteries have been exploding in some cases. Pouch cells, again.
