Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

The guy isn't the only one saying the odometer seems to be racking up miles quickly. Then, how can it be reset to zero with proof (pictures) that it should be at least 200+?

I compared my odometer reading with the interstate mile markers for about 80 miles. Matched up real close. Looks like T owners should try it.

I'm not sure which is the weirder part of that story, the odometer reset or the fact that he claims to have been on-track to have driven more than 62,000 miles in a single year in a CyberTruck.
The only thing I can think of on the mileage is that they replaced whatever module in the vehicle where the mileage is stored, and were not able to transfer the old data to the new unit (or its prohibited). So would this start the warranty at zero again (assuming it has one)?
As far as putting that many miles a year on it...I'll reserve comment. :ROFLMAO:

Ever since electronic odometers were introduced, dealers have had the ability to initialize a replacement with a starting value.
I had a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS which got a new board that backed the gauge cluster; IIRC the cluster was entirely analog other than the odometer and the odometer had the same value before and after the swap.

My guess is that this 0-mile-odometer CT is a case of the service forgetting that crucial step -- nothing nefarious -- though I also wouldn't put it past them to put the numbers forward remotely, but I'd have to see more evidence about that (and I don't care enough about the subject to go looking anecdotes on the internet for it; I'll wait for news stories after the lawsuits). I strongly doubt they accrue mileage at a faster rate constantly because that would be trivial to check vs either the mileage markers on the road or GPS; seems more likely to me that *if* they do screw with the odometer, they'd update it overnight when the car is off.

I've heard of various Teslas being used for Uber etc; 80k miles would be on the high side but definitely not unheard of (there are probably drivers doing 100k).

That's where my mind went, as well. But a CyberTruck? That's a weird Uber.

Some used to tout this as the best selling EV truck in the US. Not anymore

Meh... never chose my vehicles based on popularity, in fact probably more the opposite, if I even paid attention at all.

It was ugly when it was popular, and it's still ugly now that it's not. And bonus: now we know the hitches tend to fall off while towing.

I have nothing against Musk. He has done amazing things.

That being said, I never liked Teslas, and I think the Cybertruck is an abomination.

The name is silly. "Cyber" is generally used to label things related to the Internet, including things that only exist there, so I don't understand where "Cybertruck" came from.

The appearance is borderline heinous. It looks like Musk built it in his garage over a weekend. It reminds me of Geoff the Eagle i-Thrust.

How do you reach into the back? I don't get that at all.

I would love to see EV's take over. They are quiet. They are less messy. They have torque graphs that come straight out of engineers' dreams. On the other hand, they are still really slow to charge, they have ranges that are good mainly for city dwellers, the batteries cause fires that are really hard to put out, and at least where I live, charging stations are few and far between. I consider the technology half-baked at this point. Like cordless tools not that long ago.

I'm not thrilled about the way Musk treats customers. When you buy a Tesla, you pretty much join a cult, and Musk has done some pretty nasty things to customers who didn't toe the line. I want a vehicle, not a new religion.

I have Starlink, and my only issue has been Musk raising prices without warning.

I agree with treating the Tesla vandals like terrorists. No movement should be allowed to torment people for buying cars made by someone its members don't like.

Musk was after the publicity and got it. Win or lose he won't go broke. DeLorean went to drug money to try to save his fortune.
Musk has a mass fortune; he will just move on.
I'm not anti-electric car but I won't invest in the growing pains.
The CT is not a practical truck that's made to use as such. The CT came out strong but only time will finish the story.
Oversized door wedge!

The people who want to bankrupt Musk are models of stupidity. If he lost his entire stake in Tesla, he would still be worth $350 billion.

A lot of people would be happy with one billion.

Friends and neighbors work at Tesla and would be out of a job and the millions in local taxes would evaporate…

Musk is all about the hype. WTF is a "giga" factory? Another meaningless term that makes something sound more special than it is.

People lose jobs and taxes evaporate when ANY large business closes/cuts back. Why should Tesla employees be any different than those at other companies?

It's unfortunate when any business takes a hit due to something as rediculous as politics and customer virtue signalling. I guess one thing that makes Tesla different is that it was a company firing on all cylinders, due to a lot of good work by their employees, who are now facing job loss due solely to their leader's involvement in politics.

This is quite different than when the big 3 suffered from foreign competition, because of their bad management, bad labor unions, bad design, bad build quality, etc.

Is that really any worse than every passenger vehicle ever sold?

"It loses half its value when you drive it off the lot," became a pre-internet meme for a reason.
"Half its value" was a joke; a car definitely loses value by being registered, but not actually very much; the first miles are by far the most costly.

Better cars tend to have about a 60% residual after 3 years, 36k miles - they still haven't actually lost half at that point.

But idk what anyone expects - Tesla's always been ahead of the curve ;)
