We had 84" of snow last year, but my gosh, you'll dispute anything:laughing:
I'll give you it's colder where you are, but as far as the lines go, it's not the same old crap. There is an updated tranny line set. I got them installed and they're better. The tech that installed them told me it's the way you install them, not the lines themselves that are the problem.

I have no doubt better lines could be installed. Braided would be better.

Give your helpless GM neighbor these part numbers for the updated/improved lines :
20759973
20759972
20759971

Not sure what we got last year but Jan/Feb is our biggest dump times. Its unusual for us to get 2 feet like we did this year before Christmas.

He has the new updated ones in there. The GM parts guy at the largest dealer in Indiana told him it can not be fixed right with OEM. They have fixed trucks over and over. Not sure if his parts numbers are the same but he did tell me when he took it in the last time he wanted to see the old ones coming out since it was the 3rd set. He said they looked identical and he felt all they had done was change the part #. Look at the data on the net, its not just him with multiple failures, its all over the place. By the way, he called me this morning and told me he though he had a front bearing going out. His truck has 62,000 miles. His brother had to replace his on a 06 at 80,000 and 90,000 miles.

My front bearings on '04 D'max 4wd were done at roughly 138 and 148. Steering shaft continues to rattle.

I have not had issues with the tranny lines, of course I am way south of y'alls cold weather.

From the talk around here the front bearings on them last about 65,000 to 100,000 miles. He said he called a few other owners of them and they all said about the same. Pretty pricey to have the dealer do it.

That's good life on the front bearings.

The steering shaft is a common complaint and usually done complimentary at the dealer (it was for me and my sub's HD) Takes about 45 min. They might give you a hassle because of your truck's age, but it's worth a call.

The steering shaft takes about 45 minutes as a DYI..Did a coupe of them..No big deal. Like $45 on the internet. Annoyance that's all.

My 04 had 91k on it and never changed a suspension part. My 91 and 97 went to 200K with the original suspensions..Might have had an alignment on the 97..That's it

Had to put ball joints on my moms 89 Jimmy 2 years ago..Easy except drilling out the rivits...Turned my DeWalt drill black from the crud...Other than that, an hour or so per side.

Tim,

All my research points to a concentration of HD problems in the Indiana area. I haven't had any suspension problems or really any other problems to speak of and I'm at 60K. My truck is no pleasure truck, either.

Another nice thing is that GM gives you a 100K powertrain warranty just in case. :)

I just redid the front end of my 97 ford F150 this year, 13 yrs old. The joints and bushings weren't in horrible shape, but the squeaking was annoying. I just looked under my 2011 silverado and it seems the same as my ford, all sealed and no grease fittings.

Well the leak got worse so he took it in. They tell him its no longer covered under the 10yr 100,000 mile power-train warranty. Its only got 62,000 miles on it. Like I said he has had them replaced twice before so its had 3 sets total on it and they all leak. Very common issue but not covered under warranty is not. He is going back tomorrow to cause a stink. I told him to forget it and we will fix it right since GM can not.

Here is the best kit he could find.

LLY/LBZ/LMM 2006-2010 3-Line Trans Line Repair Kit [LLY/LBZ/LLM 2006-2010] - $225.00 : All Season Diesel Performance, Your Duramax diesel performance headquarters by Tony Burkhard owner of the Dirty Hooker

I think he is crazy for spending that much on it. I could get compression fittings or weld on fittings and make up hydraulic hoses to get rid of all the junk for under $75.

Reviving an old thread but got this link in a email today. I occasionally purchase filters from them and they have kits for some other problem areas for the GM trucks.

Thanks. I just did the 70,000 mile maintenance on it Monday. Its still leaking like a siv. I told him it was time to fix it right once and for all.

We never did anything to it. He agreed to let me make of a kit Monday using compression fittings and hydro hoses but I will send him a link to this kit.

Thanks again.
