No problem, let us know what he decides.

I looked it over pretty good and all it looks like to me is compression fitting and hydro lines. I think my local hydraulic shop could fix me up for $100 or less.

I haven't had this problem (yet) on an '03 3500 with about 148K miles on it, mostly towing - actually it is a 3601, since it was a chassis/cab incomplete vehicle.

I had a front wheel speed sensor go out about a year ago, which didn't seem to exhibit any symptom other than ABS cutting in at around walking speed - PERFECT braking from higher speeds.
Anyway, by the time I got to it (for other reasons) it seems the other brake had been doing a lot more work so the pads on that side were worn WAY down.
The disk normal surface rust on the side with the bad speed sensor hadn't been scoured off daily, so it was quite pitted.
The hubs themselves were FINE, but the wheel speed sensor is embedded in the hub so it all has to be changed at once.

Bahh, all told two new hubs (might as well while I'm in there) disks and pads - all Rockland Auto web ordered and DIY installed.
Not too bad a job, once you realize that the hub needs to be knocked around in the knuckle to spin it out and screwdrivers as WEDGES can be used to force it out.
2nd one went a LOT faster than the first (-:

I've done the same for a snowplow that ran ATF. I wouldn't think that the pressure would be great compared to a hydraulic system.

Merchant products are top notch. May not be cheap, but quality rarely is.

To fix the steering shaft just unbolt one bolt and grease the heck out of it...good for another 40K miles. Takes about 15 minutes tops. Seen some mods where guys installed a grease zerk too.

Well to update this thread.

I did a oil change today at 86,400 miles and the lines that were replaced under warranty are shot again and leaking. I had to add 1/2 a quart of fluid since the last oil change 7,500 miles ago.

Also, the carrier bearing is out again. This will be the 3rd one in it when I replace it tomorrow.

The seal on the back side of the transfer case is also leaking.

It also has a power door lock actuator that need replaced and some more dash lights but that will have to wait.

He jokingly said he may have been money ahead if he would have just bought the Ford in the first place. There was a $6,000 difference at the time.

Why on earth would you replace the lines with the factory hoses. There are aftermarket replacements that would completely eliminate the issue. But then you wouldn't be able to come here a complain about GM stuff.

Comments like this make it hard to believe these stories are more than just an attack on non-FORD vehicles...

Its not my call. Its under warranty and he wanted them to fix it. The carrier bearing is not covered under warrant which makes no sense to me since in my eyes its part of the powertrain but GM says no.

There are aftermarket lines, but as long as warranty is footing the bill, let them replace them.
