Another pet pieve of mine is the constant barrage of checks in the mail from credit card companies. They arrive at you most lean times. Wow if you have to put your taxes on credit card this country is owned by the "banko's"! I was having a conversation with a fellow republican the other evening and he thinks the dems have duped us into a false sense of security by making plastic so available.

It sad... Those with the least are only getting further in debt. I don't think there's much cash out there.

What do you guys think?

1929 people borrowed on their houses to buy stocks.

Banks don't own everything yet... just the stuff they get to repo because the Dow dropped.

Have been listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio. This guy has made a fortune out of telling people to cut up their credit cards. I think he has a web site.

I just can't figure out how to pay the Visa if I cut up the Master Card! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

DrDan, I agree with you wholeheartedly on the unsolicited credit cards, offers for loans, etc. I get a pile of them on a regular basis. I don't blame the Dem's for them, though. All the bankers I know are R's. TBone

Dr Dan, as T-Bone said, you can't pin this one on the Democrats, because I've never heard of a Democratic banker!!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif But you are right. They make credit way too easy, and most people don't take the time to understand credit agreements. My wife and I only use our credit cards for emergencies when we don't have enough cash on us to pay for something. We always pay the bills off immediately, unless it was some huge emergency expense, which happens rarely, thankfully!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Amen Rich,My wife and I have about four major credit cards with I don't know how much limit on each.We use one of these to make purchases with, really don't know why we have four? anyway that statement is paid in full every month. We have never paid any interest fees on any card.I feel very fortunate. So many people get up side down in a hurry with too much credit.

Consumers and credit cards

(At least that's how I feel once in a while!)

Between the office and home I bet we get 30 or more of those dang things a month. I put it off for a long time but we finally went to taking credit cards at the office. It's such a dang racket anymore with the mileage and all that that people want to pay with their credit cards all the time. I hate taking them as we have to pay a fee to take them every month, then a processing fee, and then the credit card company takes their percent. Winds up costing us about 5-6% of the transaction which I don't think is right. Then they turn around and charge interest as well. Quite an operation they have going on. As much as I'd like to blame it on the democrats I'm not sure how they created this one. Unless it was one of Gore's blurbs like him creating the internet.

Well credit card spending stimulates the economy, but I don't know what good the stimulus does if there is nothing behind it but plastic. It's pretty sad that the liberal offering of credit is getting so many people trapped! I mean, my god I get four or five offers a week for more credit - I rip up all the checks they send but wonder what would happen if the envelope were delivered to the wrond address and someone wrote one of those checks for alot of $$$.

I guess I just get fed up with unsolicited "offers"! At least with all the crap that come in on E-mail all you have to do is "X" it and it's gone - with all the postal junk mail I end up filling my garbage pail and guess where it goes next? Landfills! A few years ago this guy who is the "landfill archiologist" was on a TV show. One of his statements was that plastic milk bottles aren't a problem in landfills as often though. The big problem is paper! He said that just discarding annual phonebooks is a major contributor to the thickness in the layers of landfills. Amazing! Maybe we need to invent shredders that will feed thsi stuff into our furnaces.

I think any unsolicited mail should be required to contain a postage paid postcard that has two check boxes on it. "Yes I want to continue receiving this junk" or "No don't send anymore"! I have even gotten into the habbit of not sending in warrantees anymore because it just adds you to another mailing list. My god sometimes I lose important mail because it ends up getting stuck in a circular or flyer. Ridiculous!

Ok I quit ranting for now,

DrDan I agree with you on the garbage issue. But so long as we are ranting how about these D#&@ calls all day and now half the night.. I now have a air horn to blast them.. Sure they gotta make money but I pay (we) for our phone service for a conveince to ourselves not for someone to try and sell junk, credit cards, beg for money etc....I know there may be better ways to handle these people but my wife and I both work and what little time we get together I do not want to be bugged by these bufons (taken from somebody else) Sure take the phone of the hook but what about the real emergencies... Dont know just bent by all the darn calls..
Anybody else?

These telemarketing schemes are the absolute worst. They seem to call at the worst times - while you are eating, watching a ballgame (Bottom of the ninth - Braves and Yankees. Yeah I know the Yankees are going to win but I want to see it anyway). I try not to be rude to these people - they are just making a living. I think we need some kind of laws against this invasion of privacy. It's getting ridiculous at my house.
