Is there anyone happy with their 1000 series?

I have an LT1046 for 3 seasons and it has 120 hours on it. I do 1/2 an acre probably 42 times a year. The tractor runs and works great and I am very happy with it. This tractor only cost me about $1800 and it is fine for what I am doing. For $1800 I don't expect it to last forever, in fact, I think if I get a few more years out of it before I decide I need a new one I will be happy.

We have sold a bunch of the Cub Cadet LT1045's and have been very happy with them. It's been a great tractor,
Most of the complaints that you hear are from people that purchased them from Bix Box stores!
I still have a hard time understanding it. I buy my car from an auto dealership that specializes in auto's. People have their homes built by builders that specialize in building, I buy my groceries from a Groceriy store. I would not buy my car from taco bell or have my house built by Napa and I definatly would not buy my groceries from the pet store. The dealer is normally cheaper or the same price and can give you the after the sale support. Plus they normally set it up for you ( Correctly ) and even offer delivery. Plus your helping your local economy. I just have a hard time understanding the thinking behind buying from a box store?

I think I can shed a little light on this.... I bought my Cub GT3200 special order through my local Home Depot and the reason is simply my only Cub 'dealer' is 30 miles away plus when I went there only because on the phone they said they had one in stock that I could take with me, when I get they turns out they misunderstood at it was a different model Cub they they stocked. Then the owner kept trying to direct me to other brands (that they did stock) and used mowers he took on trade-in that looked like they should be scraped. I knew what I wanted and what accessories and Home Depot is only 5 minutes from my home since I already had the money in my pocket they got the sale. Also, I wouldn't use the dealer for service anyway they're just too far away, and I wasn't overly impressed with his conduct so if I couldn't do the work myself I'd just have the local shop that works on mower do it - so I guess you can say warranty means nothing to me.

I think it's convenience and financing. One of the reasons I went with Cub Cadet over John Deere since it was pretty miuch a toss up was the financing deal I got using a Cub Cadet credit card. I had just moved into a 30 year old house and went with a 24 month no interest deal when bought from a dealer rayjer than laying out the cash. I think many people probably use their Lowes and Home Depot cards for similar reasons.

The usual Big Box store employee doesn't know the difference between coarse thread and fine thread nuts and bolts. I can't imagine them helping me with a tractor problem.

Got the GT2554 from my local Cub dealer. The money stays in my home town and I have a chance of them coming to see me for services................that the Big Box stores farm out to another national chain. Screw em!!

Been going to Tractor Supply for other things more and more and to Home Depot and Lowes a LOT less too. BUT I will say I think they've gotten the message because the last few times I've been in HD and Lowes I could actually FIND an employee to help me out and not hiding in the back somewhere.

Ooops this was about the 1000 Series............my bad ;)

Does that model have the ridiculous "disengage the PTO if you go in reverse" mode?

That was the first thing I disabled on my 2140 some 13 years ago.

I read from time to time about people having PTO clutch trouble. No wonder, if you cycle it at full throttle every time you have to back up.

That was due in part to a 2.5 million dollar lawsuit someone filed against MTD because they backed up and ran a child over. Apparently that was MTD's fault that the operator was not paying attention...

What does the dealer do to same mower that box store don't,[new, one, setting it up I mean],maybe grease it,make sure deck is correct as far as level, etc, correct tire pressure, not much else wouldn't think, and anyone even buying from dealer should check all that out before using.

Now buying from dealer gives you a place to bring it to when it breaks, but there are small engine repair places everywhere[and they are small and local too].

Guess if you couldn't sharpen your own blades and change the oil,you had better buy from a dealer, but as far as I'm concerned if you are buying a cheap lawnmower, the word there is cheap, you are after a cheap lawnmower,so go get the cheapest one you can find, and those big box store prices are hard to beat.

I bought a snapper off a dealer by the way, cause box stores don't sell this model snapper!

I just purchased a 1050 to mow a little over 1 acre of grass and do a few other chores (mainly hauling a utility trailer).

I'm in love with this mower. Period.

Steering is tighter than any other lawn tractor I've used. Maneuverability is great - love the 12" turn radius. Engine power pulls my 275 lbs up steep grades effortlessly. Side to side stability is good (one reason I chose this over a JD is the seat height and center of gravity is lower - I have a need to mow areas much steeper than recommended in the manuals, like 45deg steep). Cut is excellent.

I've mowed twice so far. Each time it took less than 1 hr to do the whole thing which is a fair bit less than with my old tractor.

Only thing I don't like: you can't see the gas tank gauge while filling the tank.

I too love my Cub 1050 I bought last May. It's not just a year old with 18 hours on it. What can I say about it? I am a big guy, and the seat is comfy, with armrests nicely placed. I love the grab handles, as I live on the side of a fairly steep hill and use them alot. the 25 hp vtwin Kohler is a nice running, smooth engine. I can cut through grass that is 8-10 inches tall and thick and the mower doesn't bog down at all. I LOVE IT. As mentioned earlier, I really like the tight 12" turning radius, it simply makes mowing so much more easy.

I haven't had a lick of problem with belts or anything. Great machine, for a great price.
