I realize that this is an old thread but I might just chime in. I have an LTX 1045 with Kohler 20 hp, purchased it in June 2013 and it now has 42 hours. I use it to cut 1.5 acres of hilly lawn and tow a dethatcher rake, sweeper, and spreader 2 or 3 times a year.
I just took it out of the shed after winter, charged the battery, inflated the tires, and it fired right up. The transmission has always had a slight whine while in motion.
I like the machine BUT there are no grease zerks on the spindles, and the transmission is sealed so I cannot service it. I do like to grease moving parts and change transmission oil but can't on this machine. I do change oil and filter every 25 hours.
I recently started adding Camguard additive to the engine oil. I started using Camguard in my airplane engine last year, and now they have a product specifically for small engines. Supposed to lessen wear on cams and stuff.
Again, I do like the Cub Cadet but just don't have the same comfort level I had with machines made even 15 years ago--- I tlhink quality has dropped a lot.
