Very happy with mine so far..
I have a LT1042 I got at Tractor Supply..
it did need some deck leveling but otherwise it was good to go from the start..
starts up no problem
bought it in 2006 and have basically used it like crazy...has 95hrs on it..its a workhorse..
after figuring out the deck issue..its been great..
it hauled a 18cu.ft trailer filled with about 800lbs without too much effort..
cuts grass pretty ok..i say ok only because at level 4 it leaves the grass alittle too high but 3 cuts alittle shorter than I'd like
easy oil changes so far..easy to get at air cleaner and sparkplug(s) is getting changed very soon

the only thing i realllllly dislike about the mower is the mediocre deck design...grass gets caught up on all the bolts sticking down through the deck

this LT1042 has 3..not 1 or 2 but 3 different deck pulley and spindle re-designs...

the deckwash is an unnecessary gimmick IMO

I bought a LT1042 in the Summer of 2005 and have nothing but problems with it over the years and it only has 132 hours on the Kohler 19HP engine. I'd say the engine has been the best part but even it appears to starting to use oil now. I've had to rebuild both deck spindles twice in the past three years. I'm glad they use Timken bearings and races in the spindles but something in the design isn't working out. Just removing the deck is a mind-altering experience in itself. I've regularly lubed the spindles with the recommended NLGI #2, 251H EP Lithium grease and yet they keep self destructing after only about one season. I'm getting sick and tired of dealing with this situation. Just last week the upper bearing completely self-destructed in one of the spindles while the bottom bearing was just fine. One thing that bothers me is when I pulled the spindle apart, what was an almost clear grease when it was put in (I do know how to repack a bearing), when it was disassembled, it was black as coal and what little was left was runny as motor oil. I'm at my wits end with this thing. Don't even get me started on the crappy tranny this thing has.

Wow, 4 year old thread back from the past.
My 2006 LT1045 has been fantastic. 342hrs., 1 deck belt, 1 motor to transmission belt and I'm on the 3rd set of blades. Pull the deck off at the end of every season to pressure wash and service the blades and give a good coat of Mo-Deck spray on the underside. I would buy again in a heartbeat.

I have hit 100 hours on my 2010 LTX1045. It has been problem free. Considering I previously cut 2 acres with a bush hog, this CC has endured some really uneven, rough terrain through 3.8 mowing seasons. Belts are original. Posted a headlight switch mod as plastic cutouts for sockets are melting due to lights on for first 100 hours. I fully expect this machine to stay on the job for several hundred more hours.

5 years ago I bought a Cub LT1050 that had 43 hours on it. When I climbed off if it today it has 751 hours. The darn thing has had to have a deck belt, a drive belt, an idler pulley, and two sets of blades. Now it seems like it will probably be needing a battery soon. You just can't find anything quality anymore!

That's a lot of hours for 1000 series mower. Some posters have said that they were only built to last 5 years. The 1000 series are sold by the big box stores like Home Depot and TSC. The tractor dealers handle the heavier duty 2000 and formally 3000 series. I have a 2004 3235 with 54 inch deck and I only have 450 hours on it. In 9 years I've replaced 1 deck belt 2 sets of high-lift blades (I mow over rough ground & many tree roots), and 1 set of PTO belts. I have no drive belt as it is shaft driven. I still have the original battery, believe it or not. I did blow a head gasket and had to tear it down. It appeared that the original gaskets were never torqued down sufficiently.

I stumbled across this thread after looking for Cub Cadet info. I bought mine in 2006, for my new home here in Missouri. I mow about 3 1/2 acres and about 50 sq. ft. is flat. (Ozarks, you know) Anyway I have about 380 hours on it. In the 7 years I have had it I have:
replaced one of the blade spindles.
replaced the factory 2 ply tires with 4 ply. (front only)
replaced the blades about 5 times. (we grow grass AND rocks in Missouri)
replaced the deck belt about 4 times.
replaced the drive belt (just two days ago)
replaced the front deck wheels
welded one of the deck wheel mounts
regular 50 hr service, grease, filters, oil etc.
replaced 3 batteries.

For the amount I mow and the general lay of the land I think that none of my maintenence is out of the ordinary. I'm now looking for a sleeve hitch for the machine to keep the driveway graded. If the tractor was larger I would consider a front end loader, although I do not know if the front end is beefy enough for that. All and all I love the tractor and would buy another for mowing. But when it comes time to replace it I want something with ground engaging ability.

Bob B I bought this to mow at my inlaws and was mowing almost 7 acres weekly. Inlaws have since passed, we put a home on part of it and sold part of it. I still have a bit more than 4 acres to mow and with the weather we have had this year I am really glad that I don't have it all anymore. I can barely keep up with it

Bill55, mine is probably a little overkill (3000 w/54inch deck & triple bagger) as I only mow 1 acre although some is quite rough with tree roots etc. but I wanted something that would last as long as my 26 year old 1450 (I'm not sure that it will - uses a little oil).

I'm happy with the LT1050 I bought in Arpil of 05. The starter crapped out before it was a year old, but that was replaced under warrenty. Other than that, just routine maintainence, blades, belts, oil, one set of spark plugs, etc. Has 882.6 hrs on the clock, uses no oil, original tires, original battery, never replaced a spindle. I do change the transmission oil every fall, use a battery tender all winter, keep it out of the weather year round and have used nothing but $3.27 Purolator oil filters on the engine....H B Bob
