I have a 1050 that I just bought a couple weeks ago that I have a little over 2 hours on. I have not mowed with it yet, but I have pulled an airrator (sp), dethatcher, and a spreader. I have not seen any problems with it yet, but I'm getting a little parinoid with all the negativity and problems. So I'm curious, is there anyone that is happy with theres? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I picked up a '05 1050 this spring. VERY happy with it. I opted for the '05 over the '06 model due to the fact that '05 had the Kohler Command engine instead of the Courage.

I bought a 1042 a couple of weeks ago, so far so good /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif But I'm with you, after reading the problems some are having, I'm a little paranoid as well. I'm only using it to mow with, so hopefully it'll hold up over time. I'm wondering what percentage of the machines are having problems, it could be a very small number.... things tend to get overblown on the internet /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Good luck with your new mower, Larry

As 1046 owner I am very happy with mine. Yes there has been a lot of negative posts here from unhappy owners. But I would imagine like with all products, the unhappy owners are the ones you hear the most from because they want to voice their complaints. The rest of us who don't have any problems are happy just mowing and enjoying our new Cubs.

I have some fairly steep ditches on the front and back side of my yard. I'm not sure of the exact slope, but it probably is at about the limit of the 15% grade mentioned in the owners manual. I have had no problems with drivetrain slippage. I have however, managed to spin the tires going up and down the slope. No big deal, I have managed to do that with every mower I have used there. I haven't tried pulling anything with my Cub, but I do have plans to buy an aerator soon and I don't expect any problems from that based on what I have seen so far in performance from my Cub.

The only thing I have seen as an issue with my Cub and it's not even much of an issue to me is the idler pulley in the drive system. Mine does rattle at idle engine speed. My dealer told me about this when he dropped off the Cub, he also said to call him if it became a problem and he'd fix the pulley. So far other than the noise at idle, it's a non-issue.

The deck wash system is a feature I'm still not real sure about. I had never even thought about setting up a mower deck that way, but it does appear to be a pretty good selling point for Cub. I have used the system twice. The first time it did a pretty good job. The second time the grass was a little thicker so there was much more stuck to the deck, so it didn't clean as well that time. I rigged up a hose system where I could connect both sides of the deck at the same time. I'm getting plenty of water under the deck, but I may not have enough water pressure. Either way it's still ok. I don't mind scraping mower decks from time to time. It's what I have been doing for the past 20 years and seems to work just fine.

The important thing here is to purchase the model that best suits your needs. Some guys here use theirs hard enough they need a shaft drive. For most of us though a belt drive is more than enough.

I've had my 1045 for about 3 weeks now. I have 3/4 acre of which NONE of it is flat. Very challenging yard to cut with hills and valleys. This mower is constantly going either up or down a hill. I have no complaints. I did have a bit of wheel spin due to grass being a bit wet and weight distribution being on a slope but this nothing I wouldn't expect. I have towed a 10 cu.yard cart with branches and a few logs up a long hill with no problem. I'm glad that it seems that people with problems seem to have them right away. As I haven't had any, I don't expect any to pop up soon. Now if only my free tractor cover would get here. Any body have any experience on how long that takes?

I am new to this forum, but i have been an observer of this forum for 5 or 6 months or so. I am very happy with my SLT 1554. I maintain 2 acres of mostly fescue grass, with several areas that have generous slopes to them. I decided to post today because I agree with something I read here... those with the problems tend to speak the loudest. Now I will admit, I have been getting slightly paranoid lately after reading the posts of others, but on the other hand I don't ask my mower to do more than I think it can bear. I'm not making excuses for CC either, because I "upgraded" from a Craftsman LT 20 HP 42" cut hand-me-down, that thing seemed to be almost bulletproof. But there may be serious issues taking place that CC needs to address.

I went with a CC because I thought I was buying something that was built to last, not "built to last until I use it." I think a lot of the issues that people are facing are being addressed in the service bulletins, you just have to have a competant dealer to handle them. I personally purchased my CC from Lowes (could not pass up the SUPER deal I got on a 05 close-out), but the first thing I did was find a reputable dealer in my area. I do the majority of my own wrenching, but they (the dealer) do provide me with invaluable information. I patronize Gamble's establishment (i luckily have only had to buy a multch kit, oil and filters) in Conyers Ga.

I hope that those with pending issues with their CCs get them resolved, but to answer the question again... yes, I am very happy with my 1554.

I bought my 1050 last fall and have 15 hrs on it. I Love it. Plenty of power and it gives a wonderful cut. I feel a lot of the negitive comments come from the machines not being set up correctly IMHO. Keep it maintained and clean and it will last you a long time. It's nice to see positive remarks on these machines.

I bought a 1046 in June of last year from a dealer. I have no complaints. I have taken it in for a broken belt but that may of been my fault. Dealer fixed under waranty. I have close to 40 hours on it. I climbs hills and pulls a fourwheel wagon loaded with dirt with no problem.

I bought the LT1050 last April. I mow 2-3 acres and it performs like a dream.

It's good to hear that people are pleased with with their Cubs. I'm enjoying the limited use I'm getting out of mine. Maybe now that the weather is taking a turn towards spring up here in Iowa I'll get to start mowing. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
